#7: More buzz about a potential Week 0 proposal backed by the MIAA, CIAA, SIAC, GSC and LSC. MIAA Commissioner Racy: “It is important for Division II football. It provides great scheduling flexibility for conferences. [...] The potential bye week will be important for the health and safety of our student-athletes.” That quintet of leagues is part of a seven-conference “alliance” that has met multiple times in 2023 and that Racy describes as a “grassroots leadership group focused on improving Division II football.” Racy also notes that the MIAA could return to 12 football-playing members by the 2025 season. #6: Valdosta State AD Herb Reinhard will retire at the end of the 2023-24 academic year concluding his 31-year tenure leading the Blazers. President Richard Carvajal: "To say Herb has had a heck of a run would be an all-time understatement. He has been a trusted advisor to numerous presidents, including me, always asking just the right question at just the right time about the big issues VSU confronts. While I am personally excited about what will come next for Herb, there is no question that he will be missed by all of Blazer Nation." (link)

#4: Lake Superior State AD David Diles will retire at the end of October after two-plus years leading the Lakers. Board of Trustees Chair Timothy Lukenda: “His timespan was brief, but his impact was enduring, helping student-athletes, coaches, and staff in many macro-level and micro-level ways on game day, during practice, and, as importantly, in the classroom. We root for him and his family in his well-deserved retirement. And we thank him for his input as a consultant during our efficient and thorough search for his successor.” (link)
