Whipple on building a winning organization: “I think it starts with great people. It starts with what we've tried to outline with our core values and what we're standing for and I think that's helping us recruit and retain high quality coaches and staff members and it's putting a structure in place that allows them to flourish. Oftentimes, it's about subtle tweaks that can really make a huge impact. […] When we got here, we cast the vision of being a premier program of excellence in Division II and I feel strongly that everyone's coming to work everyday, living up to that and striving to be better tomorrow than we are today.” Knipe: “I just think ultimately that, you know, we have to continue to look at what that win-win is for everybody. Like, how can this not be a relationship that I'm just like, sucking the life out of you, but how can I give life back? I think Fort Lewis is really cool in that way, I think that from President Tom all the way down, that's something that's modeled and something that is important. I think that when you talk about culture a little bit, it's one thing to embrace the culture, and it's another thing to defend it and multiply the culture. Mammoth Sports Consulting Asst. VP/former Grand Valley State AD Tim Selgo sits down with BOSCA Founder Jim Abbott to discuss issues encountered in his current role, professional development and more. As you could imagine, the biggest facet of his consulting work is enrollment retention and strategic planning as institutions are dealing with difficult financial challenges. “What I'm also seeing is athletics departments throughout America are the ones that are helping keep enrollments at a level that colleges can stay open. Presidents turn to athletics to recruit more student-athletes. So we're seeing roster sizes grow perhaps beyond what is reasonably acceptable to have a good student-athlete experience. Selgo goes on to state the best reason for individuals to get involved in national organizations and committees is professional development, stating: “You're in a room full of leaders and you're watching how leaders operate in meetings, what they say, how they respond, who's who's willing to speak up, who isn’t. […] I got confidence, coming back to my own campus, and speaking up in meetings on our campus from my experience on NCAA and NACDA committees because I learned that if I'm going to be in this meeting and I've got some thoughts, I'm gonna share. Maybe they decide not to do what I want to do or go in a different direction, that's fine, but I want them to know my perspective. I think your perspective gets better when you have a chance to get outside your bubble on your campus and you get out and visit with other people, learn from other people, and hear what they're doing. To me that was critical professional development for me.” (link)

Following the decision to drop Men’s Lacrosse, Colorado State Pueblo student-athletes have started an online petition that has garnered over 26K signatures and met with multiple city councilors as they hope to amass support to give the program one additional year. (link)

Lenoir-Rhyne selects Keiser (NAIA) Football HC Doug Socha, who led the Seahawks to the 2023 national title, for the same post. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has proposed a multipronged overhaul of the state’s higher education system that would consolidate all 10 PASSHE and 15 community colleges under one entity, while keeping the institutions separate.
