Findlay elevates Senior Assoc. AD Givens to be the Oilers' next AD, with VP for Student Affairs/AD Laurita to remain involved with athletics as SWA. Pell Grants are scheduled to increase by $500 to $7,400 FY23 under the recent spending plan signed by President Biden. On how that will help college students, USA Today’s Quintana notes the average student spent about $340 on course materials in the 2021-22 academic year, while parking and other costs can add hundreds of dollars more, especially for STEM students, who are likely to pay additional fees for specialized lab courses. As such, American Council on Education SVP Hartle explains the extra $500, which is in addition to a $400 increase the previous year, will “help an awful lot of people who are trying to decide whether to start or to continue a post-secondary education.” The Biden administration plans to increase the maximum Pell Grant to $13K by 2029. College Sports Communicators (formerly the College Sports Information Directors of America) introduced a new organizational logo and Academic All-American program brand marks as part of its multi-stage rebranding process. The modernized logo reflects CSC’s brand story of unity and inclusivity, featuring six quarter circles indicating that all parts of the organization— NCAA Divisions I, II, III, NAIA, Canadian institutions and two-year campuses and conferences— are “stronger together.” The marks were developed in collaboration with Joe Basack & Co. CSC President/Chicago State (DI) Deputy AD Poole: “We were purposeful in choosing the design and colors to signify our growth and as a bridge from the past to the future. … All these important changes are indicative of an association on the move. In addition to our rebrand and new marks, our main focus remains on providing our members with expanded professional development, member benefits and leadership and networking opportunities as we continue to position CSC as a leader in collegiate athletics.” (link)

I think it’s also the area of our industry where we are seeing the most youth. Francis Marion removes the interim tag from MBB HC Zehnder. President Carter: “Athletic director Murray Hartzler and I had the pleasure of visiting with the team following Friday's big win. We were there to congratulate the squad on leading the conference with a 4-1 mark, producing a resounding victory over Coker, and securing the permanent coaching job for their interim coach. Coach Zehnder didn't get the job exclusively based on the Coker win, but rather the way he assumed leadership of the program and coached through the first part of the season. Murray and I were convinced that he should be our next coach. Judging by the reaction of the squad following the announcement, so was the team.” (link)

Since the onset of the pandemic, several employees have asked for more pay when managers asked that they do more work, according to ZED Digital President Jagannath. The Wall Street Journal’s Ellis and Smith, who note the sentiment is becoming increasingly common among workers, add: “The reduced ambition can leave companies needing more people to do the same amount of work, something that ultimately could be a drag on American economic productivity.” According to a Qualtrics survey conducted in November, 43% of respondents said their career ambitions have not changed at all during the pandemic while 37% indicated the importance of their work lives has also remained the same. Meanwhile, 21% reported significant decreases in both categories while 10% and 9%, respectively, reported significant increases. More from the WSJ.
