Josh Coon, who served as the head men’s cross-country and men’s outdoor track and field coach at Fort Lewis College since 2017, resigned from the school on Monday.

“I’m thankful for the opportunity. As an alumn, it meant a lot,” Coon said. “After finishing my doctorate this last September, it’s time to put that to use.”

Coon also said he was looking forward to spending more time with his kids.

Coon helped two runners advance to the Division II NCAA national championships while at FLC: Erin Renner in 2017 and Hosava Kretzmannin 2018. His teams were also ranked annually in the region and were honored as USTFCCA All-Academic teams every season he coached.

“I’m proud of the work,” he said. “My goal when I started was to leave it better than I found it, and I feel like that was accomplished.”

Coon, however, felt it was time for him to move on and said the new direction of the department wasn’t something that he could be a part of, noting that he worked under five different athletic directors in his six years at FLC.
