Britney Woodhull-Smith named Barton College Interim Director of Athletics

WILSON, N.C. – Barton College has named Britney Woodhull-Smith Interim Director of Athletics, President Dr. Douglas N. Searcy announced recently.

Woodhull-Smith takes over after the resignation of Todd Wilkinson in December.  Wilkinson stepped down as Barton College Director of Athletics to take on the same role at USC Aiken.

Woodhull-Smith was named Deputy Director of Athletics and Chief Compliance Officer over the summer of 2022 after serving as Assistant Athletic Director of Compliance and Senior Woman Administrator for two years.

"I am so grateful for the opportunity to support the Division of Athletics from this role," said Woodhull-Smith.  "We have a fantastic team of coaches and staff members and I look forward to the on-going teamwork.  I would like to thank Dr. Searcy for placing his trust in me to oversee the Division and I would also like to thank Todd (Wilkinson) for his phenomenal mentorship that has allowed me to transition into this position."

Woodhull-Smith will continue to oversee the management of all student-athletes, coaches and staff.  Woodhull-Smith will also continue to serve as a Title IX Deputy Coordinator on campus and be involved with discrimination and harassment prevention.  Woodhull-Smith represents the Division of Athletics on the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) and supports the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) on campus as the staff advisor.

"Britney's (Woodhull-Smith) knowledge of Barton's athletic programs and her leadership experience during her tenure at Barton will serve the College well during this time of transition," said Dr. Searcy.

Woodhull-Smith got her start at Barton as an Assistant Athletic Trainer, a position she held for three years beginning in 2017.  Woodhull-Smith received bachelor's degrees in zoological sciences from North Carolina State University and athletic training from East Carolina University and a master's degree in higher education/student personnel from the University of Mississippi in 2016.

Woodhull-Smith, who is working on her doctorate in Higher Education Administration from Southern Mississippi University, is married to current Head Barton Men's and Women's Swimming Coach Kevin Woodhull-Smith.  The couple have three children:  Vincent, Drake and Harley.
