MIAMI – After leading the FIU swimming and diving program to eight straight conference championships, head coach Randy Horner has signed a five-year contract extension that will keep him in Miami through the 2026-27 season, FIU director of athletics Scott Carr announced.

"We are very excited to have Randy continue to lead our swimming and diving program," Carr said. "Randy has taken our program to new heights with eight conference championships, NCAA appearances, international competitors, and academic success. We look forward to watching Randy and our swimming and diving program continue to raise the bar."

Horner led the Panthers to an FIU and Conference USA record eight consecutive C-USA titles from 2015 through 2022, before the FIU swimming and diving team joined the American Athletic Conference this season. Under his lead, the Panthers have appeared in 11 straight NCAA Championships, the longest current streak among non-Power 5 conferences.

He has earned the C-USA Coach of the Year award seven times, has coached nine consecutive conference swimmers of the year, and led eight student-athletes to conference diver of the year honors. Horner has also been named CSCAA National Invitational Championship Coach of the Year twice and was the Sun Belt Coach of the Year once.

"I could not be happier to extend my commitment to FIU for the next five years," Horner said. "Our program has come a long way since I came to FIU just over 12 years ago and we are far from finished. I appreciate this opportunity given to me by Scott Carr and will continue to work hard to make FIU proud of our program's performance in the pool and in the classroom."

Other notable accomplishments for Horner's program include 12 consecutive years of Academic All-America Team honors, nine consecutive years earning the FIU Athletics Michael Felsberg Spirit Award, and nine straight years earning the Champs Cup Award, which combines academic and athletic accomplishments with Panther Pride and community service.

This past season, the Panthers swept the C-USA swimmer, diver, and newcomer of the year awards. Christie Chue earned honorable mention NCAA All-America status and advanced to the NCAA Championship finals in the 200-meter breaststroke.

In their first season in The American, the Panthers have won the TYR Fall Classic and recently defeated Liberty in a dual meet. FIU is currently in competition at the Purdue Invitational in West Lafayette, Indiana.
