Baseball and softball fans will soon be able to enjoy alcoholic beverages while attending University of Alabama games. On Tuesday evening, Tuscaloosa City Council members approved a motion to allow alcoholic purchases at SewelliThomas and Rhoads Stadiums.

Tuscaloosa District 4 Council Member Lee Busby and District 5 Council Member and Council President Kip Tyner are excited that fans will have the choice to purchase alcohol in the stadiums.

“At least people will have a choice. We made an agreement with the University of Alabama for the football games and now basketball, so it was hard to say no to softball and baseball,” said Tyner.

Busby agreed this is a good move.

“It’ll be a small add, but I think this is really more about letting people have a cold beer on a hot day while watching a baseball game,” Busby said.

District 6 Council Member John Faile was the only councilor who voted against the motion.

Faile said he was approached by residents in his district who said they feel the stadiums are family venues and should not serve alcohol. District 7 Council Member Cassius Lanier was absent from the meeting.
