BOWIE, Md. – The Department of Athletics at Bowie State University has announced the hiring of Derric West as the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance Wednesday.
 
"Bulldog Nation Athletics welcomes Derric West as our new Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance," said Clyde Doughty, Jr., Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation. "Derric brings a wealth of experience in the field of intercollegiate athletic compliance.  We look forward to his interaction and engagement with coaches, staff, peers, and student-athletes as he manages the myriad of demands associated with ensuring adequate and quality compliance within the framework of the NCAA and the CIAA.''
 
West will be responsible for compliance and governance in all aspects of NCAA compliance including maintaining the compliance program for all financial aid activities, facilitating scholarship processing and National Letter of Intents, as well as assisting with all educational workshops for student-athletes and other compliance activities.
 
"I'm very excited to join the Bowie State Athletic Department," said West. "The leadership and direction the program is heading is very attractive and I'm looking forward to being a part of the future of Bowie State Athletics."
 
West arrives from California State Fullerton, where he initially came on as a Compliance Specialist. He was promoted to the position of Assistant Athletics Director, Compliance in November 2018.
 
Prior to CSUF, West was a Compliance Specialist at Lafayette College, and a Compliance and Student-Athlete Affairs Assistant at Temple University.  

A native of Baltimore, Md., West received his B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in 2010. In 2015 he was awarded a Masters of Sports Business from Temple University.
