Campbell restructures external affairs senior staff

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell director of athletics Hannah Bazemore has announced a number of promotions, as well as a restructure throughout the department's external senior staff to better serve the Fighting Camels' 21 varsity programs, as well as their student-athletes, coaches, staff and alumni, in addition to the campus and surrounding community.

"This restructure is imperative for Campbell Athletics to take a step forward in promoting our student-athletes and staff," said Bazemore. "The student-athlete experience is the foundation for every decision we make and these changes with the external affairs TEAM coincides with that. These changes will not only improve efficiency and effectiveness of this unit, they will also help us generate additional revenue, engage consistently with our alumni, communicate and better tell our story, and ultimately maximize our opportunities for success."

Chris Hemeyer, a member of the CU staff since 2011, has been elevated to senior associate athletics director for external affairs, leading the external team and reporting to the director of athletics. Under his new role, Hemeyer will strategically plan and manage the athletic department's creative content, digital media, broadcasting, marketing and strategic communications, as well as athletic alumni, sponsorship, and season ticket holder relations.

Serving as the play-by-play voice for Fighting Camel football and men's basketball broadcasts since his arrival in Buies Creek, Hemeyer was promoted to assistant AD for broadcasting and digital media in 2021, and will continue to be the play-by-play voice for Campbell Athletics.

A mainstay of the Campbell athletics department for 33 years, Stan Cole shifts roles to associate AD for community and alumni engagement. Cole will not only maintain, but expand the Campbell Athletics Hall of Fame, nominating and reaching out to potential new candidates while maintaining relationships with current Hall of Fame members, and serve as head writer and editor for GoCamels.com, among other duties, including the newly created "Tales from the Creek" podcast.

A 1987 Campbell graduate, Cole has led CU's communications efforts since 1989, being promoted to associate AD in 2007. Cole was presented the 25-year award at the College Sports Information Directors of America workshop at the NACDA Convention in June 2014.

In his 16th year at Campbell, Jason Williams has been promoted to associate AD for communications and branding. In his new position, Williams will lead the CU communications department, including the development and execution of public relations activities that support and promote the Fighting Camels' 21 sports. He is also responsible for brand management of the athletics department.

First joining the Campbell staff in 2007 as a media services assistant, Williams has served as director of communications since 2015, working with several Camel programs over his time in Buies Creek.

Matt Lavery has also been named associate AD for external affairs, overseeing the marketing, ticketing and creative content for Campbell Athletics. Additionally, Lavery will manage the athletics licensing program, while assisting in managing partner relationships and sales.

Lavery joined the CU staff in July 2022 as an assistant AD, coordinating marketing and fan experience after a stint at North Carolina State.

"I am so fortunate to have each of these administrators as teammates leading and serving this department," added Bazemore. "This external affairs TEAM is extremely talented and loyal to the mission of Campbell Athletics and I'm excited for them as we step into this new era together. They are invested and committed and I'm thrilled to see all that we will accomplish as One Campbell."

Additionally, Hemeyer will serve on the CU Athletics executive leadership team, while Cole, Williams and Lavery will assume roles on the department's senior leadership team.
