Georgia Tech Meets, Extends Competitive Drive Initiative Goal

THE FLATS – The Competitive Drive Initiative – a unified endeavor by Georgia Tech, the Georgia Tech Foundation, Georgia Tech athletics and the Alexander-Tharpe Fund to accelerate funding for student-athlete scholarships – has met its initial fundraising goal of $2.5 million in less than six weeks and has extended its target to $3.5 million raised by Dec. 31.

With all new gifts to the A-T Fund’s Athletic Scholarship Fund being matched dollar-for-dollar by the Georgia Tech Foundation, the total impact for Georgia Tech athletics has reached $5 million. Should the new $3.5 million target be reached by Dec. 31, it will result in a total impact of $7 million for Tech athletics.

As announced by Georgia Tech President Ángel Cabrera during Monday’s press conference to introduce new football head coach Brent Key, the initial $2.5 million fundraising goal was reached with a gift from Key and his wife, Danielle.

“We couldn’t be more thankful for Georgia Tech fans across the globe that have helped us reach our initial goal of raising $2.5 million and making a total impact of $5 million for Tech athletics through the Competitive Drive Initiative,” Georgia Tech director of athletics J Batt said. “We’re also very appreciative for President Cabrera and the Georgia Tech Foundation, who have committed another $1 million in dollar-for-dollar matches to any new gifts and pledges to the Athletic Scholarship Fund between now and Dec. 31, which makes it possible for fans to continue to double the impact of – and receive double the benefits for – their donations this month. Thank you to everyone for your support of Georgia Tech student-athletes!”

As an incentive to contribute to the Accelerate GT match program by Dec. 31, not only will the gift be matched by the Georgia Tech Foundation, but so will the contributor’s benefits in the way of A-T Fund giving levels and priority points (e.g. – a person that makes a $500 contribution to Accelerate GT by Dec. 31 will receive benefits at the Heisman ($1,000) giving level and receive 20 A-T Fund Priority Points, instead of 10).

To be eligible for the dollar-for-dollar match, a donor must make a new gift to the Athletic Scholarship Fund by Dec. 31. For donors that made gifts to the Athletic Scholarship Fund during the 2022 Giving Year (July 1, 2021-June 30, 2022), a new gift is defined as any amount greater than that donated in 2022, and the match will be applied to the amount of the new gift. For those who did not make an Athletic Scholarship Fund donation in 2022, their entire gift is eligible to be matched.

The Competitive Drive Initiative is a part of Transforming Tomorrow, Georgia Tech’s $2 billion comprehensive campaign to build a foundation for advancing the Institute and its impact — on people’s lives, on the way we work together to create innovative solutions, and on our world — for decades to come.
