The Nebraska University Board of Regents voted unanimously Friday to raise room and board rates on four of its campuses.

The vote locks in a 3% increase in fees for three academic years starting in the fall of 2023 on the UNL, UNK, UNO, and College of Technical Agriculture campuses. The regents passed the measure without any discussion.

At the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the increases would take a double occupancy dorm room from $12,644 in the 2023-24 academic year to $13,413 in the 2025-26 academic year.

In his request to the board, UNL Chancellor Ronnie Green wrote that campus dorm costs will remain competitive among other Big Ten universities.

On the University of Nebraska-Omaha campus, room and board rates will increase 3.4% in 2023 – bumping up the price of housing at Scott Court to $7,920 per semester. Rates will increase again 3.5% in the 2024-25 and 2025-26 academic years to make Scott Court dorms $8,484 per semester.

The chancellors pointed to increased costs of employee salaries, food and supply prices, and technological updates as reasons to raise the on-campus housing fees.

In February 2021, the Board of Regents reduced the cost of UNL’s double-occupancy dorm rooms by 2.2% for the 2021 academic year, then raised rates 3% in 2022.
