DENTON, Texas – Jared Mosley will serve as Vice President and Director of Athletics at the University of North Texas, President Neal Smatresk announced Saturday, concluding a 10-day search.

"After a short but deep search for the next leader of UNT Athletics, I am pleased to announce that our interim AD, Jared Mosley has been offered the position," Smatresk said. "We ran an open search using a nationally respected headhunter who gave us remarkably well qualified candidates. I think many of them could have done a great job for us, but Jared provided me a vision that was crisp, clear, and built on the foundation we have put in place the last six years."

A native of Lockney, Texas, Mosley is the 15th director of athletics in UNT history. He succeeds Wren Baker, who was named the new Vice President and Director of Athletics at West Virginia on November 30.

"Jared will do an outstanding job for us. He will continue to build the program as we enter The American and will bring the Mean Green to new heights," Smatresk said.

"I would like to thank Dr. Smatresk and the UNT Board of Regents for the opportunity to serve as Vice President and Director of Athletics," Mosley said. "The opportunities ahead of us as we enter this next era in the American Athletic Conference are exciting and I can't wait to get to work with all our great coaches, staff, and student-athletes. We have accomplished much in recent years, but we need all of Mean Green Nation pulling in the same direction to help take our department to even greater heights. I know we can get there together!"

The 45-year-old has served as UNT Athletics' Associate Vice President and Chief Operating Officer since September 2016. In that role, he assisted Baker with financial, operational, and administrative issues. He also was tasked with developing strategic initiatives and providing oversight for human resources issues as well as facilities and event management, student services, marketing, promotions, and strategic communications.

He served as sport program administrator for both men's and women's basketball while assisting with football and handling scheduling for the football program. In his time at UNT, seven programs (men's cross country, volleyball, women's soccer, football, men's basketball, women's golf and softball) combined to win 17 conference or division championships, and the overall athletic department's winning percentage in the last year was the best in the modern era.

Mosley came to North Texas from the Texas Sports Hall of Fame, where he held the title of Chief Executive Officer and President from 2014-16.

Prior to that appointment, Mosley served as Director of Athletics for 10 years at Abilene Christian University from 2004-14, where he increased the athletics fundraising more than 650 percent up to more than $1.7 million in his final year. Mosley oversaw more than $30 million in facilities construction and renovations while leading the Wildcats through the first year of their Division I transition. He also secured the lead gift for an on-campus football stadium.

Mosley, who has more than 20 years' experience in athletics administration and leadership, also worked as Associate Athletic Director at ACU from 2001-03.

He earned a pair of degrees from ACU with a Bachelor of Science degree in 2000 and a master's in education administration in 2003. Mosley was inducted into the ACU Sports Hall of Fame in 2015 after a successful basketball career, where he finished as the 11th-leading scorer and the eighth-leading rebounder in school history.

Mosley and his wife Trish have three children, Jaden, Jaxon, and Blair.
