Walters Signs a Multi-Year Contract Extension

Nov 30, 2022

OMAHA, Neb. – Head coach Tim Walters has signed a multi-year contract extension and will remain at the helm of the Omaha women's soccer team. He has coached the Mavericks the last six seasons.

"We are thrilled to have Tim continue as the leader of our women's soccer program," said Vice Chancellor of Athletics Adrian Dowell. "Under Tim's leadership, the program has continued to elevate highlighted by advancing to three Summit League Championship games and capturing this year's title. In the 50th year of Title IX, the program became the first women's team to advance to the NCAA tournament during the Division I era. Coach Walters continues to successfully recruit the top-notch talent in our region and our student-athletes consistently achieve impressive feats in competition, the classroom and in the community."

Walters has over 40 wins as head coach and led the Mavericks to their first ever Summit League Title in 2022 earning the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. It marked the first women's program at Omaha to advance to the tournament in the Division I era.

Omaha has seen the league tournament in all but one season, which includes three championship match appearances.

In 2021, the Mavericks won nine matches, which was the most in a single-season since the Division I transition. Omaha posted its best winning percentage in 2020 when the Mavericks upset No. 2 South Dakota State in penalty kicks to advance to the Summit League Championship.

Over the six seasons, Walters has coached three All-Region, one Summit League Newcomer of the Year, one Summit League Goalkeeper of the Year, and 24 All-Summit League selections. His teams have also had success in the classroom collecting six CoSIDA Academic All-District nods and seven Academic All-Summit League awards.

"I want to thank Vice Chancellor of Athletics Adrian Dowell, Chancellor Joanne Li, and our sports supervisor Brian Carey for their support and belief in our staff and our women's soccer program," said Walters. "Their passion for supporting student athletes will always be so important to our success here at Omaha.

"Most importantly, I want to thank our Omaha women's soccer student-athletes. I love working with them and look forward to sharing more success with them on and off the field in the coming years.  My family and I are thrilled to extend our stay here in Omaha."
