Polley Signs Multi-Year Contract Extension

February 22, 2023

BOSTON – Boston University director of athletics Drew Marrochello has announced that head men's lacrosse coach Ryan Polley has recently signed a multi-year contract extension.

"The steady progression of our men's lacrosse program under Coach Polley is undoubtedly one of the top success stories in our department's recent history," said Marrochello. "He has proven to be an excellent leader who has consistently kept the holistic development of his student-athletes as his top priority. We are proud to have him at the men's lacrosse helm and look forward to watching him continue to elevate the program."

Fresh off the first Patriot League regular season and tournament titles in program history, Polley has been the head coach of the men's lacrosse program since its inaugural varsity season in 2014 and has accumulated 69 victories during that time. He is a three-time New England Division I Coach of the Year (2017,  2019, 2022) and he received the Patriot League Coach of the Year award in 2017 and 2022. The Terriers made their NCAA Tournament debut last spring following a home triumph over Army West Point in the Patriot League Championship.

"I want to thank President Robert Brown and Drew Marrochello for all the support they have given me during my time at Boston University," Polley said. "It's been an absolute honor to lead this program from day one and I feel blessed to be given the opportunity to guide BU Men's Lacrosse into our 10th season and beyond. I'm proud of all that we've been able to accomplish over the last decade both on and off the field, from winning a Patriot League title to establishing a family culture that epitomizes what it means to be a Terrier."

Seven different Terriers have earned All-America accolades under Polley's guidance, including a program-record three in 2022. Polley has coached 26 All-Patriot League selections, eight USILA Scholar All-Americans and nine Academic All-Patriot League choices. In addition, eight alumni have gone on to play professionally in either Major League Lacrosse, the Premier Lacrosse League or the National Lacrosse League.

"I also want to thank all the coaches who have worked beside me and have been instrumental to our success. I would specifically like to acknowledge associate head coach Mike Silipo and assistant coach Judd Lattimore who have been with me for the last seven and five years, respectively. Their passion and hard work for the program is appreciated and contagious. Next, I would like to thank our support staff here at BU, our parents, both of current players and of alumni, as well as our Friends of BU Lacrosse. Their support, although mostly behind the scenes, has not gone unnoticed and has been paramount to our success. Finally, and most importantly, I would like to thank our current players, varsity alumni and club alumni for their belief and dedication to this program. I will always cherish the relationships I have been able to form because of BU Lacrosse and look forward building many more."
