Overhauled Sound System to Improve All Facets of Fan Entertainment

DURHAM, N.H. A new, state-of-the-art sound system is scheduled to be installed at the Whittemore Center in the spring. The system will completely overhaul the gameday experience and deliver crisp and clear audio for University of New Hampshire events in the Whitt.

"We have heard our fans loud and clear when they have told us they are having volume issues with our PA announcements and music at men's and women's hockey games," said Allison Rich, UNH Director of Athletics.

The addition of an enhanced sound system was originally targeted to be part of last spring/summer's $6.3 million Whittemore Center renovation project that installed the modernized ice-making equipment and reconfigured the playing surface with improved boards and glass. Supply chain issues delayed the sound system portion of the overall project.

"While it took longer than we would have liked, we are delighted to let our fans know they will be hearing our music, PA announcer and all videoboard content crystal clear and at a suitable volume in time for next season and beyond," Rich added. "We thank you for your patience as we continue our mission of providing our fans the best possible entertainment at all Wildcat events."

The existing main arena audio system will be completely replaced with a total of 18 Fulcrum, full-range coaxial loudspeakers. These loudspeakers will deliver clear, controlled, and powerful, full-range audio. The system will also include new wireless microphones and production communication systems. Careful considerations were also made for the broadcast side that will fully integrate the needs of UNH Wildcat Productions. Additionally, loudspeakers will be installed in each of the luxury boxes along with a new distributed audio system in the Skybox Lounge.

PC Construction will manage the installation performed by CAVT Solutions, LLC. Installation is scheduled for April at a cost of $450,000. The sound system ties into the life safety arena evacuation system and was funded as part of the overall ice making equipment replacement funded by the University's deferred maintenance allocation.
