MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—Barry University has named Dr. Kevin Padin as the head cross country coach, Director of Athletics Michael Covone announced today.

Padin comes to The Shores from Florida National, where he was an assistant track & field coach and head cross country coach for the Conquistadors for their first two seasons.

"I want to thank the administration, including Dr. (Mike) Allen, Dr. (Scott) Smith and Mr. (Mike) Covone, for sharing their vision and entrusting me with this opportunity," Padin said. "Between the wonderful resources at Barry and the community enthusiasm, I'm confident we can bring back a strong running program to South Florida."

His first season, Padin guided his Conquistadors through a strong finish where multiple individual and team records were broken. Both men's and women's teams finished as Continental Atlantic Conference (CAC) runner up. He had multiple runners named CAC First-Team; one on the men's side and two on the women's side. The two women also earned trips to the NAIA National Championship. In the 2022 fall season, Padin coached three NAIA national qualifiers, finished runner-up in the CAC women's division, and had several runners of the week.

Padin came to FNU in November of 2020 from Coral Gables High where he served as the head coach of the track & field program, overseeing all aspects of the program. He also served as an assistant coach on the Cavalier football staff.

From 2012-2015, Padin worked at St. Brendan High School in Miami, Florida, as the co-head coach of the school's track & field team and an assistant with the Sabre's cross country team.

Padin's certifications include USA Track & Field (level II), USA Weightlifting (level I), and NSCA certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS).

Padin earned a bachelor of science in entomology and nematology from the University of Florida in 2011. He went on to earn a doctorate in physical therapy from the University of Miami in 2018.
