Feb 15, 2023 | General, Memphis Athletics Fund

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Laird Veatch has announced promotions for Christina Wiatr and Justin Fenlon. Wiatr has been elevated to Associate Athletic Director, Annual Fund & Women's Sports Revenue Initiatives, and Fenlon has been named Assistant Athletic Director, Business Operations.

"We are pleased to promote Christina and Justin into these well-deserved roles as a result of their successes as part of our athletic administration," Veatch said. "Christina's expertise and perspective since joining our Memphis Athletics Fund staff has been invaluable in shaping our vision for our future, and Justin has been a tremendous asset to our programs in handling logistics so they can focus on training and competition. We are looking forward to the future with Christina and Justin in these positions."

Wiatr's promotion formalizes her role within the Memphis Athletics Fund while also recognizing her on leadership philanthropy and revenue generation, specifically focused on women's sports. Wiatr led the creation of 901Women, an initiative established to honor 50 years of competitive and academic excellence within Memphis' sports programs since the passage of Title IX and inspire and generate philanthropic support for the enhancement of experiences for current and future female student-athletes, alongside Memphis Executive Associate Athletic Director/Senior Woman Administrator Lauren Ashman. The initiative has closed nearly $250,000 in support for women's sports at Memphis in less than one year. In her new role, Wiatr will also serve as a member of the athletic department's Senior Staff and external leadership team.

Wiatr joined the Memphis Athletic Department as Assistant Athletic Director, Annual Fund in Jan. 2022 after serving as Associate Manager with The Wasserman Group Sports & Entertainment Agency and also serving as Lead Generation and Development Specialist for ALSAC/St Jude Children's Research Hospital, Guest Relations Coordinator for American Airlines Center in Dallas and in group sales with the Memphis Grizzlies.

Fenlon's new role formalizes his position as a go-to resource in the athletic department's business office. While continuing to manage all aspects of team and recruiting travel, Fenlon will also directly oversee procurement operations, including Tigerbuy requisitions, purchase orders, invoice payment, purchasing cards, travel cards and ChromeRiver reimbursement. In his elevated role, Fenlon will also assist with human resources functions as well as budget management and reporting.

Fenlon arrived in Memphis in the fall of 2018 after holding various business and client service positions within the NHL (Phoenix Coyotes, Washington Capitals) and Minor League Baseball (Nashville Sounds) and serving in event management positions at the Ohio Valley Conference (Brentwood, Tenn.) and Keppler Speakers Bureau, where he managed travel and logistics for high-profile celebrity speakers.
