DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman University Athletic Director Reggie Theus announced Thursday the appointment of Chris Wollett as Head Tennis Coach.
Wollett joins the Wildcats after eight seasons at Embry-Riddle University, where he served as an assistant coach under Dave Paschal for both the men's and women's programs, helping guide the program through the Athletic Department's transition from the NAIA to NCAA Division II.
"We are thrilled to have Coach Wollett join our Wildcat family," Theus said. "He brings an outstanding resume to our program, and we look forward to seeing him bring that same success to Wildcats Tennis."
In his time with the Eagles, Wollett helped coach the women's team to a 61-73 record overall. In his first season, Wollett helped guide the Eagles to a runner-up Sun Conference finish and an NAIA National Championship quarterfinal appearance.
Wollett helped lead the women's tennis program to four Sunshine State Conference Tournament appearances, and his team finished with a 12-9 finish last spring.
With the men's program, Wollett's tenure saw the Eagles finish with a 95-43 record over eight seasons. In his first season with the program, the men captured conference regular season and tournament titles on the way to an NAIA national runner-up finish.
The Eagles also made an appearance in NCAA DII Regionals in 2017 and reached the NCAA DII National Quarterfinals just last season after a 19-6 regular-season finish.
"First, I want to thank AD Theus, Deputy AD Bright, and Senior Associate AD Davenport and, Senior Associate AD Sommer for this incredible opportunity," Wollett said. "When I first received a call from Mr. Bright, I immediately felt the energy and passion for B-CU Athletics. I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of. I'm excited to lead this team into the next chapter of the Wildcats tennis program."
Originally from Ocala, Fla., Wollett spent time at the College of Charleston prior to his time at Embry-Riddle, where he served as the assistant coach for the NCAA I men's and women's tennis programs in 2014. The 2014 Cougars men's team achieved a No. 64 ITA national ranking during the season and notched wins against No. 57 Iowa, UC Riverside and Georgia State on the way to an 18-6 overall record. The women's team was 18-8, earning wins against the University of Massachusetts and No. 65 Iowa. Both teams posted runner-up finishes in Colonial Athletic Association tournament play.
Prior his time with the Cougars, Wollett was the head coach of the women's tennis program at Western Carolina University from 2010-13 and before that, he was the Director of Tennis at the Country Club of Ocala in Ocala, Fla.
Wollett played two seasons of collegiate tennis at the University of Mary Washington where he helped the Eagles to a national tournament appearance and a top-10 ranking in NCAA III in 2002. He then transferred to the University of North Florida where he earned his undergraduate degree in International Studies in 2003. Wollett completed his Master of Science degree in Kinesiology from Georgia Southern in 2016.
