The SEC fined Vanderbilt basketball Friday for storming the court following its win over Tennessee.

The Commodores (12-12, 5-6 SEC) ended an 11-game losing streak to the Volunteers (19-5, 8-3 SEC) on a buzzer-beater for Tyrin Lawrence. Vanderbilt earned the 66-65 win on Wednesday at Memorial Coliseum.

The fine is the fourth incurred by the university under the current policy for fans entering the competition area. The fine totals $250,000, and the money will enter the SEC Post-Graduate Scholarship Fund.

The SEC announced in November the formation of a working group to review and update policies on fans accessing competition areas postgame. Any new regulations would be implemented for the 2023-24 athletic year.

The fines range from $50,000 for a first offense up to $100,000 for a second. Subsequent incidents earn a fine of $250,000. Vanderbilt's third incident occurred after the Commodores' football win over Florida last season.

The SEC policy reads “access to competition areas shall be limited to participating student-athletes, coaches, officials, support personnel and properly-credentialed individuals at all times. For the safety of participants and spectators alike, at no time before, during or after a contest shall spectators be permitted to enter the competition area. It is the responsibility of each member institution to implement procedures to ensure compliance with this policy.”
