Tomic, Bowling Green Agree To Contract Extension

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green State University Director of Athletics and Recreation Derek van der Merwe has announced a three-year contract extension for head volleyball coach Danijela Tomic. Tomic's contract now runs through Dec. 14, 2027.
"Coach Tomic represents everything that is great about Bowling Green State University," said van der Merwe. "She embraces campus and its faculty, staff, and students. She embraces the community of alumni, donors, and fans. She is committed to the total development of her student-athletes. We are going to raise many more banners in the Stroh Center under her leadership and will all be there to celebrate with her."
"I am extremely excited that Coach Tomic will continue to lead this program and this tremendous group of student-athletes," said Deputy Athletic Director Stacy Kosciak. "Coach Tomic is an elite coach who is not only dedicated to building a preeminent volleyball experience here at BGSU, but also positively impacting this department and the Bowling Green community."
Coming off her 11th season at the helm of the Falcons, Tomic led the Orange and Brown to the program's second MAC Tournament Championship and NCAA Tournament berth in the last three seasons. The Falcons concluded the season with 22-10 standing, including wins over Tennessee and Mississippi State who were receiving votes in the national rankings at the time of the matches. Bowling Green also finished the season with a 15-3 MAC record and a 10-2 record at home in the Stroh Center.
At the season's conclusion, the Falcons had three players receive All-MAC honors. Petra Indrova was named the MAC Player of the Year for the second consecutive season, becoming the third Falcon to win the award multiple times. Lauryn Hovey was named the MAC Freshman of the Year, becoming the fourth recipient in program history and the first since 2016. Both Indrova and Hovey were named All-MAC First Team. Hovey was also named to the MAC All-Freshman Team, being joined by Jessica Andrews who was also named All-MAC Second Team.
"Serving as BGSU's Head Volleyball Coach for 11 years has been an honor," said Coach Danijela Tomic. "I am thrilled to continue serving in the same role, in the community, and with the people I love. I am also happy that our coaching staff remains the longest-tenured staff in the MAC. Alex DelPiombo and Alison Cooke are invaluable to me and our program, and I am thankful that our coaching journey together continues.
I want to thank President Rogers, Derek van der Merwe, and Stacy Kosciak for their leadership, support, and commitment to BGSU Volleyball and for entrusting me to continue leading the program.
Lastly, I am grateful for our past and current BGVB student-athletes, who are my Big Why. We have built a strong and sustainable championship team culture at BGSU and the best is yet to come. Go Falcons!"
Over 11 seasons at the helm of the Falcons, Tomic has tallied a 350-197 record, including being 128-57 within conference play and a 51-6 MAC standing over the last three seasons. In that time, the Orange and Brown have captured three MAC Regular Season Championships, being in 2017, 2018 and 2020-21, as well as three MAC Tournament titles that granted NCAA Tournament berths, one in 2012, 2020-21 and 2022. The 2012 team under Tomic also captured the program's lone NCAA Tournament victory, being a five-set win over Yale.
