Tri-County Technical College and North Greenville University announced a new partnership on Monday.
The schools held a press conference on the Tri-County Technical College campus.
"This partnership is providing access for students in our community to be able to move from our early childhood education program, which is an associate's degree program, seamlessly into North Greenville University's Early Childhood Program," said Galen DeHay, President of Tri-County Technical College.

Through the partnership, Tri-County students will be able to transfer to the Early Childhood Education bachelor's degree program at North Greenville University. According to Tri-County, the program is online, and all of a student's Tri-County course credits will transfer.
“This is one of the unique things about this program, and really it’s a first of its kind as I’m aware of in the state of South Carolina, where North Greenville University has found a way to make it possible to take 100% of the associate's degree credits and transfer them directly in and make it as seamless as possible," said DeHay.
Leaders from both schools said a program like this is needed as the state and nation face a teacher shortage.
“This provides that pathway to help students who want to teach or feel called to teach to complete their education and receive their licensure quickly and get all the courses that are needed for that," said Constance Wright, Dean of the College of Education at North Greenville University.
According to Martha Strickland, with First Steps 4K, there is a big need for early childhood teachers in South Carolina and across the country.
“We are hearing every day teachers are not only centers and schools can not find teachers, but they’re also leaving," said Strickland.
Strickland hopes partnerships like this inspire people to work in the classroom.
“I am very hopeful that we’re going to see a bright sunny future for our early childhood teachers," said Strickland.
According to Tri-County Technical College, students who transfer to the program will be eligible for a discount on tuition.
