Following on the heels of one of the most successful seasons in school history, the William & Mary Athletics Department and head football coach Mike London have agreed to a contract extension that will run through to the end of the 2027 season.
 
"Coach London has done an outstanding job leading our program," said W&M Director of Athletics Brian D. Mann. "He has continued our tradition of attracting and developing student-athletes who are able to compete for championships, while also being a positive force on our campus and in our community."
 
London's success leading W&M in 2022 was recognized at the national level, as he was selected as a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Award, which honors the FCS National Coach of the Year, and finished fourth in the final voting. Additionally, London was selected as the Bobby Ross Coach of the Year by the Touchdown Club of Richmond and the VaSID (Virginia Sports Information Directors) Coach of the Year.
 
"I am excited to have the opportunity to continue to build on the great tradition we have at William & Mary," said London. "My family and I love living and working in this community and we are looking forward to many more exciting seasons to come."
 
One of college football's most respected head coaches, London's long list of career accolades includes a FCS National Championship and being honored as the AFCA FCS National Coach of the Year, Atlantic Coast Conference Coach of the Year, AFCA Regional Coach of the Year and an Eddie Robinson Award Finalist twice.
 
"We are thrilled to be partnering with Coach London for years to come.  He is an excellent coach and a great leader, who surrounds himself with exceptional people," said Mann.  
 
In concert with his extension, London announced that he will turn to his existing staff to head the Tribe defense moving forward, as Ras-I Dowling and Bo Revell will serve as co-coordinators and replace former coordinator, Vincent Brown. The pair have been instrumental in W&M's success defensively throughout London's tenure leading the Tribe and have consistently produced units that rank among the nation's best in numerous categories while also developing All-America caliber standouts.
 
"With our program coming off one of the most successful seasons in school history, I am incredibly pleased we were able to retain so many of our great assistants who made this success possible. We have many talented young coaches who are ready to take on bigger challenges and I am excited to put them in positions where I believe they will be successful," said London.
 
In addition to promoting Dowling and Revell, Mario Acitelli (Run Game Coordinator/Offensive Line), Darryl Blackstock (Special Teams Coordinator/Outside Linebackers Coach) and Keenan Carter (Recruting Coordinator/Defensive Line Coach) also were given expanded opportunities to impact the program.

The Tribe faithful have plenty to be excited about for the coming season, as W&M returns a host of talent from one of the most successful teams in 129-year history of the program. Last season W&M equaled a school record with 11 victories, won a share of the Colonial Athletic Association title and advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals.
 
Additionally, W&M won a school-record 10 regular season games, posted a perfect 6-0 regular season road record for the first time in school history, defeated three nationally ranked teams and earned a lopsided season-opening victory on the road against FBS opponent Charlotte.

One more major positive for the Tribe moving into the 2023 season is the return of offensive coordinator Christian Taylor, who authored a unit that set W&M single season records for rushing yards (3,455), rushing yards per game (265.8) and rushing yards per carry (5.9), while its points per game (33.5), rushing touchdowns (35) and total yards per game (448.8) all ranked among the program's top five best figures.
 
Defensively, the Tribe ranked first nationally in fumbles recovered (15), seventh in turnovers gained (25), sixth in third down conversion defense (.315) and 16th in red zone defense (.736). Additionally, W&M finished second in the CAA in sacks (33) – a figure that ranks seventh on the program's all-time single-season list.
