TOLEDO, Ohio -   University of Toledo Senior Associate Athletic Director Kelly Andrews announced today that she will retire from her position this spring. Andrews has served as the Rockets' senior woman administrator for the past 21 years. In that time, she has served as sport supervisor for teams that have won 23 Mid-American Conference Championship titles and made 11 NCAA Championship appearances.

"I am so very thankful for the opportunities that being a Rocket has provided me over these many years," said Andrews. "I appreciate the leadership, mentorship and friendship of (former Toledo athletic director) Mike O'Brien during our 20 years together. It is the people in our department, coaches, staff, and student-athletes, who make this a special place and there are so many memorable moments in our history that I will always treasure. I am consistently amazed by what our student-athletes have achieved here at UT and beyond. We are shaping future leaders who will impact their communities and our world.

"Finally, I am thankful for the relationships I have been able to develop with our university community, our MAC colleagues, and our fans. I have been enriched by all. Bryan Blair and his team have a tremendous vision for the future of the Rockets, and I will be cheering them on always!"

Toledo Vice President and Athletic Director Bryan B. Blair praised Andrews for her many years of service to the Rockets.

"Kelly Andrews has been a huge part of Rocket Athletics for more than two decades," said Blair. "She devoted herself to serving the Rockets and helping build our program into one of the very best in the Mid-American Conference. During my time with the Rockets, she has been an indispensable resource of institutional knowledge and perspective. We wish her all the best in her upcoming retirement."

Andrews joined the Rockets in June of 2002 as associate athletic director and was promoted to the role of senior associate athletic director in 2008. She served as the reporting administrator for 14 sport programs, as well as overseeing many aspects of the department's internal operations, such as strength & conditioning and equipment services. She served as tournament director for numerous MAC Championships hosted by the University of Toledo, as well as the 2009 NCAA Men's Golf Championship and the 2014 NCAA Women's Basketball First/Second Rounds.

Andrews has served on the NACDA Executive Committee, NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Committee, and NCAA Division I Awards, Benefits and Financial Aid Cabinet. She served as the chair of the MAC Senior Administrators group from 2008-10 and is currently the sport liaison for MAC baseball and volleyball.

Prior to coming to Toledo, Andrews was the associate athletic director at East Tennessee State 1998-2002.

Andrews began her coaching career as the head women's volleyball coach at Erie Community College in Buffalo, N.Y. Her coaching background also includes a 10-year stint as the head volleyball coach at East Tennessee from 1988-97, where she led her school to four Southern Conference championships and was Southern Conference Coach of the Year in 1991.

A native of Buffalo, Andrews grew up in Horseheads, N.Y., and was a three-sport standout at Horseheads High School. She competed in volleyball, basketball and lacrosse while earning her bachelor's degree in English from Colgate in 1980 and was inducted into the Colgate Athletic Hall of Honor in 2005. Andrews completed her master's degree in physical education/sport management at West Virginia University.

Andrews and her wife Laurelle plan to spend their retirement in the Carolinas.
