3/2/2023 9:00:00 AM

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – After seven years at the helm of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball program, head coach Lynn Plett has announced his resignation.  Plett will remain at UCCS through the transition period as UCCS will look to hire a new coach by April.

"I have been blessed with the opportunity to coach, and coach with exceptional individuals during the last seven years as Head Women's Basketball Coach at UCCS," said Plett.  "Young women, student-athletes who have cared for and supported their teammates through some trying and challenging seasons.  It has been a privilege for me to be their coach and to be a part of their lives."

Plett completed his seventh season as head coach of the Mountain Lions in 2022-23, his 25th year coaching NCAA women's basketball, and over four decades coaching men's and women's basketball at the collegiate level. Plett, who leaves UCCS as the all-time winningest coach in program history with 84 wins, guided the Mountain Lions to their first RMAC Tournament Championship Title in program history in his first season in 2016-17, and their third NCAA Tournament appearance.

"I would like to thank Coach Plett for his leadership during the past seven seasons at UCCS," said Executive Director of Athletics Nathan Gibson. "He has meant a great deal to me, to UCCS and to our department and I wish him all the best in this next chapter.  I have a great amount of respect for Lynn and I know that he has made a difference in the lives of so many people over the last 40 years!"

In seven years coaching the Mountain Lions, Plett coached 47 RMAC All-Academic honorees and 10 All-RMAC performers.  He earned his 300th career win last season on Jan. 22, 2022, notching 317 all-time career wins.

Prior to joining the Mountain Lions, Plett spent five seasons as the head coach at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri, reaching the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association tournament three times.  He was the head coach at Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois, from 2002 through 2007, and his teams qualified for three NCAA Division II Tournaments in his career. Plett entered Division II coaching at Saint Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Indiana, in 1994, where he also doubled as athletic director. He won the GLVC championship and was named GLVC Coach of the Year in his first season.

Plett has also coached men's basketball at Huntington College in Indiana from 1989 through 1994, at Marymount College in Kansas from 1986 through 1989, and at his alma mater, Tabor College in Kansas from 1983 through 1986.

A national search to hire the next Mountain Lions women's' basketball coach will begin immediately.
