Columbia Athletics Unveils Lisa Landau Carnoy Lounge

The Lions’ honored the former co-chair of University Trustees after Saturday's women's basketball game

NEW YORK - Following its women's basketball game on Saturday, March 4, Columbia Athletics dedicated the Lisa Landau Carnoy '89CC Lounge in the Marcellus Hartley Dodge Fitness Center after decades of service to the University and Athletics program.

"Lisa has been such a tremendous resource to our athletics program and Columbia University," said Campbell Family Director of Intercollegiate Athletics & Physical Education Peter Pilling. "From helping form the Women's Leadership Council to all of her accomplishments as a University trustee, Lisa's achievements are second to none. We are so grateful for all her contributions and proud to dedicate the Lisa Landau Carnoy Lounge in her honor."

The space on the third floor of Dodge Fitness Center, which overlooks Schiller Court at Levien Gymnasium, has undergone a major transformation over the past year. These upgrades include updated branding, furniture, digital display and a new kitchen. The lounge will be used for meetings for student-athletes and staff, along with pre and postgame events.

Carnoy walked onto the track & field team as a first-year and was a member of only the third full graduating class of women at Columbia College. After graduation, she blazed a trail through the world of high finance, rising to high ranks at Bank of America/Merril Lynch, where she was identified as one of the most powerful women on Wall Street.

In 2007, she partnered with fellow alumnae Donna Herlinksy MacPhee '89CC and Phillippa Feldman Portnoy '86BC to establish the Women's Leadership Council for Columbia Athletics - the first-ever initiative to drive fundraising among former student-athletes of women's sports programs. In the 15 years since its inception, the Women's Leadership Council has raised more than $8.5 million in support of Columbia Athletics.

Carnoy was a recipient of the Columbia John Jay Award in 2007 and was named among the 25 most influential women for the 25th anniversary of the Columbia-Barnard Athletic Consortium in 2009.

Appointed to the University Trustees in 2010, she became Co-Chair with fellow former student-athlete Jonathan Lavine '88CC in 2018. Carnoy served in that capacity until the completion of her term in 2022.

During her tenure on the Board of Trustees, Columbia Athletics opened the Campbell Sports Center at the Baker Athletics Complex and broke ground on the new Columbia Tennis Center.

Carnoy recently served as the Chair of the University's Presidential Search Committee, which recently announced the selection of Minouche Shafik to become the 20th President of Columbia University.

For all her contributions of time, talent and treasure to the University and Athletics program, Columbia is proud to name the Lisa Landau Carnoy Lounge in her honor. Additionally, the athletics program is excited to announce a new tribute to Lou Gehrig, for which the space was previously named, at the Baker Athletics Complex.
