Deedee Brown-Campbell will serve as Texas Tech’s interim Senior Woman Administrator beginning this month

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt announced Thursday the appointment of Deedee Brown-Campbell as the athletics department's interim Senior Woman Administrator. Brown-Campbell will serve in this capacity for the duration of the spring semester.

In this role, Brown-Campbell will be responsible for all Title IX oversight, Texas Tech's sport administrator program, and oversee the J.T. and Margaret Talkington Student-Athlete Development office. During the interim period, Brown-Campbell will continue to direct Texas Tech's academic services staff as she is completing her second full year in that role.

"Deedee has been a great addition to our executive staff since her arrival more than a year ago," Hocutt said. "During this period of transition on our executive staff, I have full faith in Deedee to serve as our Senior Woman Administrator and fulfill the important duties of that position."

Brown-Campbell joined Texas Tech Athletics in August 2021 as Senior Associate Athletics Director for Academic Excellence where she oversees all academic support for the university's more than 400 student-athletes and the NCAA eligibility process. Her staff at the Marsha Sharp Center helped Texas Tech student-athletes boast a 3.33 GPA this past fall semester, the second-highest term GPA in school history.

"I'm honored that Kirby has entrusted me with serving as our Senior Woman Administrator for the remainder of this semester," Brown-Campbell said. "As a former student-athlete myself, my top priority will always be the care of our talented student-athletes and providing the best experience possible during their stay here. I hope we can continue building upon the great success this athletics department has achieved together in recent years."

Brown-Campbell arrived at Texas Tech following 10-plus years at Big 12 counterpart Baylor where she most recently served as Associate Athletics Director for Academic Services. She joined the Baylor staff from her alma mater, Arkansas, where she worked in academic support from 2004-10, which included a stretch as the Assistant Athletics Director for women's academic support prior to the combination of the men's and women's athletics departments into one unit in 2008.

Brown-Campbell was a standout track and field athlete for the Razorbacks, garnering All-America honors in the outdoor heptathlon twice during her career (2000, 2002) while claiming three SEC individual titles. Her efforts on the track earned her an induction in the Arkansas Sports Hall of Honor in 2015 as well as the state of Arkansas Track and Field Hall of Fame that same year.

Brown-Campbell steps into the role previously occupied by Brandi Stuart, who will depart Texas Tech in early March to accept the Deputy A.D. position at Penn State.
