WMU Announces Contract Extension for Men's Soccer Head Coach Chad Wiseman

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Director of Athletics Dan Bartholomae have announced a new contract for WMU head men's soccer coach, Chad Wiseman. Wiseman's new contract runs through the 2026 season.

"I am honored and humbled for the opportunity to continue to be the coach of the Broncos.," said Wiseman.  "I would like to thank Athletic Director Dan Bartholomae for believing in me and the vision we have for the men's soccer program. To the past and current players, thank you for believing in the process and culture of our program. I would also like to thank my assistant coaches, both past and current, for their dedication to our program.  It is no secret that my wife Morgan, and our children love the University and the Kalamazoo community. We are excited about the future and look forward to leading the program."

Wiseman recently completed his 10th season as head coach of the men's soccer program, which also was one of the best seasons in program history. The Broncos won the 2022 MAC Tournament, defeating MAC rival Akron on their home field, earning the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. During the NCAA Tournament run, the Broncos upset ACC opponent, the University of Louisville, and nationally ranked Lipscomb on the road, before falling to the University of Portland in the Round of 16.

"To say we are elated and thrilled to have Coach Wiseman locked in as a Bronco for many years to come is an understatement," said Director of Athletics, Dan Bartholomae.  "Coach Wiseman has overseen two of the program's three total MAC Championships, the only two NCAA Sweet 16 appearances in program history, the program's only three All-Americans and the program's six of seven MLS draftees. Additionally, his team's academic performance matches these lofty competitive accomplishments, having most recently been recognized as having the 2nd highest team GPA in all of Division 1 and having featured 12 Academic All-Americans throughout his tenure. Coach Wiseman has proven to be one of the most successful men's soccer coaches in the country during his time at Western, and the future is bright for our men's soccer program."

Under the leadership of Wiseman, the Broncos have had ten straight winning seasons, which includes a 12-0 record over teams in Michigan since 2018. He has been named MAC Coach of the Year twice, has coached two MAC Players of the Year, Brandon Bye (2017) and Daniel Nimick (2022), and two MAC Freshman of the Year with Charlie Sharp (2019) and Carson Hodgson (2022). He has coached 3 All-Americans and 5 MLS Draft picks. In the last 5 years, the Broncos have finished in the Top 25 nationally twice and were ranked as high as 5th during the 2017 season.

Wiseman's teams have also been successful in the classroom. In total, he has also coached 79 Academic All-MAC Selections and 15 Academic All-Americans. The program posted the 2nd highest GPA in the nation during the 2021-22 season.
