Georgetown Parts Ways With James Howard

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University has not renewed the contract of Women's Basketball Head Coach James Howard, Francis X. Rienzo Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Lee Reed announced today.

"Coach Howard and his staff have shown a true commitment to the program and his student-athletes over the past six years," said Reed. "I want to thank him for both his dedication and leadership to our student-athletes, and wish him well in the future."

A national search for the next head coach will begin immediately.

Howard was named the 10th head coach in Georgetown women's basketball history in June of 2017. He was promoted after serving as the associate head coach for two seasons.  Howard returned to the Hilltop after being an assistant coach for the Blue & Gray during the 1997-98 season.

"Georgetown will always hold a special place in my heart," said Howard. "I was fortunate to build relationships that will continue as I move on to the next opportunity. I want to thank Lee Reed, Sharon Brummell, University administration, my staff and, most importantly, the student-athletes for making an impact in my tenure on the Hilltop."
