Silver Named Associate Athletic Director, Academics and Compliance

Malone Silver has been promoted to Associate Athletic Director for Academics and Compliance, Jackson State University Vice President / Director of Athletics Ashley Robinson announced.
 
Silver initially joined JSU as Assistant Athletic Director for Academics in August 2021. During his time, Tiger student-athletes continued to be champions in the classroom and in competition. In the 2022 calendar year computing spring, summer, and fall semesters, Jackson State University student-athletes combined for a 3.164 grade point average.
 
A total of 12 athletics units attained at least a 2.9 GPA, led by men's tennis (3.569), volleyball (3.560), soccer (3.509), softball (3.337), bowling (3.304), women's tennis (3.148), women's basketball (3.047), baseball (3.026), men's track (2.947), men's basketball (2.933), football (2.906), and cheerleading (2.901). In the most recent NCAA Report, Jackson State Athletics posted a Graduation Success Rate of 90, the highest in the Southwestern Athletic Conference and tied for the highest rate of all schools in Mississippi. 
 
"I'm excited to elevate Malone to this role," Robinson said. "He has shown a continued dedication to ensuring the academic success of our student-athletes. In this expanded role, I look forward to him directing our academic and compliance areas to enhance our student-athlete and departmental excellence further."
 
Before Jackson State, Silver was the academic advisor for football at the University of South Carolina, helping Gamecocks' football earn over a 3.0 semester GPA four times. During the Spring 2021 semester, the football program earned the 4th highest program GPA ever with a 3.022 and earned the 2nd highest GSR rate in the Southeastern Conference at 89 percent. During the Fall 2020 semester, 20 football student-athletes had already earned their undergraduate degrees.

Prior to Silver's role at South Carolina, he served as an Athletic Academic Advisor at Prairie View A&M University. Malone worked with the football, men's basketball, women's basketball, bowling, and track & field teams. Malone also oversaw all life skills programming for the department as well.

A native of Elizabeth City, North Carolina, Silver earned his bachelor's degree in Sports Management from Elizabeth City State University and his master's degree in Sports Management from American Public University. During his time at ECSU, Silver competed as a member of the football team in the CIAA Conference. In 2018, Silver received the Professional Promise Award at the N4A Conference Convention for his dedication to serving student-athletes.

Silver is a member of the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A), The National Association for Athletics Compliance (NAAC), and is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
