Huiet Signs Contract Extension Through 2027

Volleyball head coach has led the Bobcats to three 20-win seasons

SAN MARCOS, Texas – After leading Texas State volleyball to three straight 20-win seasons, a Sun Belt Conference championship in 2020, and an NCAA Tournament appearance, head coach Sean Huiet has signed a contract extension that will run through the 2027 season, Texas State Director of Athletics Don Coryell announced today.

Huiet, who took over the program in 2020, has a .896 winning percentage in Sun Belt matches and accumulated 75 overall wins in three seasons leading Texas State. He has also taken the Bobcats to the conference championship match in each of the three campaigns.

"Coach Huiet has done a remarkable job leading our highly successful volleyball program, and we're fortunate to have him continuing to lead the way," said Coryell. "Our student-athletes benefit from his leadership, and his on-the-court success is only a piece of what he brings to the university and San Marcos community. We believe in him and his staff and look forward to seeing Texas State volleyball ascend to new heights."

Huiet succeeded legendary Texas State volleyball coach Karen Chisum, for whom he served as an assistant coach for 14 years from 2006 to 2019. He owns a career head coaching record of 75-28 and a conference mark of 43-5. In the 2020-21 season, he led the Bobcats to a spot in the national rankings, a conference championship, and a win in the NCAA Tournament.

"I am very humbled and honored to continue leading this Texas State volleyball program," said Huiet. "San Marcos is a special place that my family and I love to call home. I would like to thank (Texas State University President) Dr. Damphousse, Don, Tracy (Shoemake) and the senior staff for believing in me and my vision for this program. I would also like to extend a thank you to my staff and student-athletes for the countless hours and hard work that they continuously pour into our program. I could not be more excited about the future of Texas State Volleyball.  It's a great day to be a Bobcat!"

In addition to team accolades, Huiet has guided the Bobcats to reach All-American status (Emily DeWalt, twice, and Janell Fitzgerald in 2022), earn seven conference player of the year honors, and accumulate 12 all-conference awards.

The Bobcats have also succeeded in the classroom as they have been garnered the AVCA Team Academic Award twice in Huiet's tenure (2021, 2022). This past season, Emily DeWalt, Jacqueline Lee and Tessa Marshall were named CSC Academic All-District as well.
