Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center—home to the Tennessee swimming & diving programs and one of the nation's premier facilities—has been selected as the host site for the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for diving, USA Diving and the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee announced Wednesday.

"We're thrilled about the opportunity to work alongside Visit Knoxville to host such a prestigious event," Tennessee Vice Chancellor/Director of Athletics Danny White said. "Tennessee Athletics has a rich Olympic history—particularly as it relates to swimming & diving, with former Vols and Lady Vols capturing 16 Olympic medals in the pool since 1972. The 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials will allow us to expand on that history in a different way by showcasing our world-class facility and campus while welcoming the U.S. diving community to Rocky Top."

Held every four years, the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for diving determine the divers who will represent the United States at the Olympic Games Paris 2024. More than 100 of the nation's best divers are expected to compete in Knoxville to vie for spots on the Olympic roster in June 2024. Pending U.S. qualification, competition will be conducted for both men and women in individual and synchronized 3-meter springboard and 10-meter platform events.

"I am beyond excited by the announcement that Knoxville and the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center at the University of Tennessee has been selected to host the most prestigious event in USA Diving, the 2024 USA Olympic Diving Trials," Tennessee Diving Coach Dave Parrington said. "There are so many people and organizations to thank. Firstly, thank you, USA Diving for choosing our great city, campus and facility. I especially thank and give credit to Kim Bumpas, Chad Culver and their staff at Visit Knoxville, without who's know how, determination, support and willingness to do all it takes in bringing this event to our superb aquatic and diving facility, would not have been possible. Additionally, a great deal of gratitude goes to Marshall Goldman, Aquatic Director at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center, who was extremely instrumental and supportive in this entire process, given his wealth of knowledge and ability to run big events among other things. From Tennessee Aquatics, Derek Paul's involvement and support is also immensely appreciated. None of this would have been possible of course without the foresight of the University of Tennessee Athletic Department in the building of the Allan Jones Aquatic Center and for the athletic department's willingness to allow such prestigious events on our campus, for which I am most grateful. I'd be remiss without mentioning and thanking Matt Kredich, Director of Swimming and Diving/Head Swim Coach, for all his backing and support for our program, and projects such as this.

"It has been since 1976 since we have hosted the Olympic Diving trials in the old outdoor pool, during which the legendary Greg Louganis kick started his amazing career by winning both men's events at age 15. Who knows, perhaps history can repeat itself and a young up and coming male or female diving star may emerge, or how about a Tennessee Vol. Personally, since 1990 when I was named Head Diving Coach here at the University of Tennessee, I have had it in my mind that it would very cool to have this event sometime to bring our great sport at the highest level back to Knoxville. After discussing it with Marshall, then Visit Knoxville, the ball started rolling. This will be great for our local diving community, not to mention many other aspiring young athletes looking to catch the Olympic Dream."

Built in 2008, Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center has played host to numerous high-level events throughout the years. The facility previously acted as the host for several USA Diving national events, including the 2019 USA Diving Junior National Championships and the 2014 USA Diving National Championships. After serving as the home of the 2022 SEC Swimming & Diving Championships in February, AJIAC will host the 2023 NCAA Women's Swimming & Diving Championships as well as the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships this March.

"We are thrilled and honored to be able to bring another world-class event to our world-class facility," Kredich said. "This is clear statement by the diving community that Tennessee is the place for them to choose the Olympic team, one that not only highlights the quality of our facility but also the incredible support that the Knoxville community has shown for Olympic sports."

USA Diving is coming off a successful Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, where U.S. divers won three medals. Nearly 100 divers competed at the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for diving.

Coverage details for the 2024 Team Trials will be announced by NBC Sports at a later date.
