Wagner Steps Down from Head Coaching Position; Glasser Elevated to Interim Head Coach for Upcoming Season

SUNY Brockport Head Women's Lacrosse Coach Stephen Wagner will step down from his position to pursue other professional opportunities. Current assistant coach Bryana Glasser will be elevated to interim Head Coach for the Golden Eagles.

"I am grateful for having the opportunity to cultivate so many meaningful relationships with our student athletes and coworkers," said Wagner. "I am a richer person because of the people and the athletes Brockport has brought into my life, and for that I will be forever grateful."

Wagner spent the last 11 seasons at the helm of the Brockport women's lacrosse program and helped lead the Golden Eagles to national prominence since being named the sideline general in 2012. Brockport reached the SUNYAC Conference Tournament each year since 2012, including five SUNYAC Championship Game appearances and three NCAA Tournament berths. Throughout his tenure, the Golden Eagles have become a fixture in the IWLCA Division III National rankings.

"We'd like to thank Coach Wagner for everything he has done for the sport of women's lacrosse and for his time spent at SUNY Brockport," said Athletic Director Erick Hart. "He has touched the lives of countless student-athletes over the course of his tenure and helped develop our women's lacrosse program into a national power. We wish him the very best."

In 2019, he led Brockport to the program's first SUNYAC title, a 13-4 victory on the road at nationally-ranked Geneseo. After another run to the SUNYAC Semifinals in 2022, the program has now made it to the semifinal round seven seasons in a row. Over the course of his time in the green and gold, he posted 121 victories, and an impressive .684 winning percentage.

Wagner's 20+ year coaching career began back in 2000 as the defensive coordinator at Brockport. He also spent time at St. Bonaventure, University of Connecticut and Gannon.

Bryanna Glasser will take over the reins of the program as interim head coach and brings a wealth of experience to the Brockport sidelines. Glasser returned to Brockport in the Fall of 2022 as an assistant coach. She previously spent two seasons as Coach Wagner's assistant in 2018 and 2019, helping lead the Golden Eagles to two consecutive SUNYAC Conference Tournament Championship games, including the conference title and automatic NCAA Tournament berth in 2019.

"We're fortunate to have someone like Coach Glasser on staff to help transition Brockport women's lacrosse into a new era," said Erick Hart. "She is well-liked by the team, she knows Brockport extremely well given her experience, and she has coached and played at an extremely high level. She is a perfect fit to take over the program and we're excited for the future of Brockport women's lacrosse."

Prior to joining the staff at Brockport, she spent three seasons as the Head Coach at Division I Sienna College where she helped guide the Saints to a top four ranking in the MAAC and rights to host MAAC Tournament action in 2015. Prior to Sienna, she spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Division I Duquesne University where she helped lead the Dukes to the A10 Championship game in 2013 and the A10 Semifinals in 2014. She also spent one season as an assistant coach at the University of New Hampshire and one season in the same role at Iona College.

"I'd like to thank Coach Wagner for not only his mentorship, but for everything he has done for this program over the last decade," said Glasser. "I could not be more excited to be back at Brockport and to get back out on the field working towards another SUNYAC title."

Brockport finished its 2022 season last Spring with an 11-6 overall record and a 7-2 ledger in SUNYAC Conference play. The Golden Eagles advanced to the SUNYAC Conference Tournament semifinals.
