Dan Brooks Signs 5-Year Contract Extension

DURHAM – Duke University Vice President and Director of Athletics Nina King announced on Thursday Blue Devil women's golf coach Dan Brooks has signed a five-year contract extension through the 2027-28 campaign.  

Brooks, the winningest women's golf coach in NCAA history, is coming off collecting his 142nd all-time victory this past weekend at the Landfall Tradition as the Blue Devils carded a record-tying 17-under, 271, on Sunday to finish with a 21-under, 843.  His 142 wins are the most of any coach in NCAA history.

"Dan Brooks has set the standard for collegiate coaches – regardless of sport – with a list of accomplishments rivaled by few in NCAA history," said Duke Vice President and Director of Athletics Nina King.  "Having cultivated and sustained a championship culture with our women's golf program, Coach Brooks has been a pillar of success at Duke University for four decades, and we are incredibly fortunate to have him continue his elite career here."

In his 40th season at Duke, Brooks has guided the Blue Devils to unprecedented heights including seven NCAA Championships, 21 ACC Championships and 10 NCAA Regional Championships.  His Duke teams have won at least one tournament in 38 of his 40 seasons.  Brooks' golfers have won an impressive 119 events and he has groomed 40 Blue Devils who have gone on to play professional golf.  

"Duke University holds a very special place in my heart," said Brooks.  "Above all else, Duke's unique combination of academic and athletic excellence, and the support it provides for its student-athletes, is what keeps me here.  I'm grateful to know that Nina King wants me to continue serving this great university."

Brooks is a seven-time National Coach of the Year, 16-time ACC Coach of the Year and 12-time District Coach of the Year.  He has coached 26 All-America golfers for 61 total selections, four NCAA Individual Champions and three U.S. Women's Amateur Champions.  Brooks' seven NCAA titles also are the most by a women's golf coach in NCAA history.

Duke has totaled top-5 finishes 17 times and top-10 placements in the Golfweek Poll 22 times.  Brooks has been selected to the Duke Athletics, Carolinas Golf, North Carolina Sports and Women's Golf Coaches Association Hall of Fame.  

The Blue Devils are off for the remainder of the fall before opening the spring season Feb. 18-20 at the Moon Golf Invitational in Melbourne, Fla.
