FRANKLIN, Ind. – Franklin College is mourning the loss of head women's golf coach Roger Lundy, who passed away on Tuesday (Oct. 30) night.

"Roger was an outstanding coach, helping many good golfers become great and even beginning golfers become collegiately competitive," Franklin College President Kerry Prather said. "He was a master teacher, but he imparted far more than skills and strategies to his student-athletes. He regarded his role as primarily a mentor, helping his players navigate life and the college experience successfully. He took the most pride in the graduation and subsequent life success and happiness of his student-athletes. Those women returned his support and guidance with life-long loyalty and love."

"We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Coach Roger Lundy," Director of Athletics Lance Marshall added. "Roger had a special gift for teaching, not only on the golf course, but more importantly, he will be remembered for the life lessons he taught: "Be kind, always do your best, and have no regrets". A great friend, coach and mentor, his impact on the Indiana golf community and the Franklin College community were immeasurable. Our thoughts and prayers are with Denise, Peter, Paige '17, Connor and the entire family. He will be missed beyond words."

Lundy was appointed the head coach of the Franklin women's team in 2007, leading Franklin to five Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) women's golf championships and seven total appearances at the NCAA championships. He helped guide Franklin Athletic Hall of Famer Katie Tewell to a pair of Women's Golf Coach Association (WGCA) First Team All-American honors, and the program boasted 18 WGCA Academic All-American Scholars during his tenure as head coach.

He succeeded legendary head coach Dr. Richard Park as the head coach of the men's program in 2009 and held that position until 2015. Prior to joining the Franklin family, Lundy was the women's golf head coach at Manchester University, starting the program in 1994 and serving in that capacity until 2004. During his time in the HCAC, he was named the Women's Golf Coach of the Year in 2003, 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2012.
