Mettler takes control of NDC women’s lacrosse; Morhac heads to Wisconsin

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Notre Dame College's Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Scott Swain announced that Elizabeth Mettler will lead the women's lacrosse program in the 2023-24 season. Mettler has been on the NDC coaching staff since 2016 as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.

"Notre Dame College women's lacrosse has held a very special place in my heart since I started with the program in 2016," Mettler said. "I've seen this program accomplish so much growth in my time here and every year is always an exciting new chapter. The success of this program has been built on the backs of so many hardworking individuals in regard to coaching staff and student-athletes alike. NDC lacrosse is a rising talent with a strong family mindset. There is incredible promise in the continuation of achieving excellence, as the program moves forward."

Mettler has played a pivotal role in the Falcons' success over the past seven seasons, as the program has gone from a 2-10 record in 2017 to three consecutive double-digit win campaigns and two Mountain East Conference Tournament Championships since 2021.

"With Elizabeth's recruiting experience here at NDC and her thorough knowledge of our program, I am very confident of another successful season in spring 2024," Swain said.

In her time as an assistant at NDC, Mettler has put in a lot of work with the goalies. Between 2021 and 2022, Mackenzie Levine finished her career third in NDC program history in saves (247), third in saves per game (8.23) and third in save percentage (.458). Last season, freshman Annika Duncan played 19 games in goal, recording 99 saves with a save percentage of .356.

Prior to NDC, she coached at Beaumont High School from 2014 to 2015 and led the Ohio Premier Lacrosse Club team from 2015 to 2016.

As a student-athlete, Mettler competed at Guilford College from 2009 to 2013 and was the starting goalie for three seasons. During her senior year, she helped Guilford attain its first undefeated conference record in program history. That season, the Quakers had an overall record of 15-2 and a conference record of 10-0. She was then invited to the 2013 Senior All-Star Tournament in Philadelphia.

"I want to thank Scott Swain for entrusting me to hold this position for a team that has so much of my heart and has been so inspirational for myself over the years," Mettler mentioned. "I am humble, grateful and excited to lead such a determined and dedicated group of young women into the next season, the sky is the limit."

Ben Morhac exits after an incredibly successful run and a complete turnaround of the NDC program. He holds a coaching record of 34-21, overall, with a 31-4 mark in Mountain East Conference play. The team hoisted the MEC tournament trophy in 2021 and 2022. Prior to Morhac, the Falcons had never qualified for the MEC Tournament and had not appeared in any conference tournament since 2013. He will now help start a lacrosse program at Lawrence University.
