The Boilermakers will embark on a national search for the third head soccer coach in program history

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Mike Bobinski announced on Friday a head coaching change for the Boilermakers' soccer program, which has been led by head coach Drew Roff since 2015.

"We are thankful for Coach Roff's dedicated efforts on behalf of our soccer program over the past nine seasons, and wish him the very best in the years ahead," Bobinski said.

In nine seasons as head coach of the Boilermakers, Roff guided the program to a 62-78-21 record, with trips to the Big Ten Tournament in 2017, 2019 and 2021 and an NCAA Tournament berth in 2021. Since his first season in 2015, Roff's student-athletes earned nine All-Big Ten awards and three Big Ten All-Freshman Team honors. Two, Maddy Williams in 2017 and Sarah Griffith in 2021, collected All-America accolades and were both named the Big Ten Forwards of the Year.

"It has been a privilege to be the leader of Purdue Soccer for the last nine years," said Roff. "I want to thank our current and former student-athletes, as well as my assistant coaches and support staff for all their contributions. I also want to thank the late Morgan Burke for providing the opportunity to work for such a prestigious institution, and Mike Bobinski and Ed Howat for supporting me throughout my tenure. I believe a strong foundation has been built, and under new leadership the program will be able to take the next step. I am looking forward to a new challenge and wish Purdue Soccer all the best."

In the classroom, Roff's teams totaled 141 Academic All-Big Ten honors, seven Academic All-District accolades and one Academic All-America award, by Hannah Melchiorre in 2019. Melchiorre also was recognized as a semifinalist for the 2020 Coach Wooden Citizenship Cup.

Roff coached the Boilermakers to a breakout 2021 season. Purdue posted a 15-4-3 record, its second-most wins ever. The squad compiled an 8-2-0 Big Ten mark to place second, tied for both its best conference finish and most league wins in school history. The season finished in the NCAA Tournament Second Round as the Boilers made the postseason for the first time since 2009. Purdue also was nationally ranked for the first time since 2009. Griffith and Marisa Bova became the first two NWSL draft picks in program history, and they are two of five players from that 2021 team that did or are currently playing professionally.

Purdue Athletics will begin a nationwide search to identify the Boilermakers' next head soccer coach.
