Head Coach John Battaglino of The College of Saint Rose 2024 women's lacrosse team

John Battaglino

The College of Saint Rose named John Battaglino as women's lacrosse head coach in October of 2023.

"We are thrilled to welcome John to our Golden Knight family," Saint Rose Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics Lori Anctil said at the time of his appointment. "John has made an immediate impact at every program he has coached and is well respected among his coaching peers and throughout the lacrosse community. His passion for the sport, along with his depth of knowledge and experience is unrivaled. We look forward to the energy and excitement John will bring to our campus and community.”

Prior to Saint Rose, Battaglino led the UAlbany women's lacrosse program from 2011-2017, where he guided the Great Danes to America East title game appearances in each season as head coach. With Battaglino at the helm, UAlbany reached back-to-back America East Conference championships in 2011 and 2012, as well as four NCAA Tournament berths.

Battaglino was named Coach of the Year in the America East on three different occasions, in addition to earning national Coach of the Year honors by Inside Lacrosse Magazine in 2011. Before UAlbany, Battaglino was the associate head coach and offensive coordinator for six seasons at Syracuse.

Locally, Battaglino led the Bethlehem High School girl's lacrosse team to four New York State regional championships and six Section II titles. He coached the program to the Class A state semifinals three times and reached the state championship on one occasion.

Battaglino earned a B.A. in political science from Siena College in 1986. He went on to earn a master's in environmental planning from UAlbany in 1992, before receiving another graduate degree in education. Battaglino served on the selection committee for the 2006 U.S. Lacrosse National Team and was inducted into the Adirondack Region Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2008.
