Organizational Unit Overview | The Primary Purpose of the Pirate Club or ECU Educational Foundation is to serve East Carolina University and its student-athletes as the friend raising and fundraising organization for East Carolina University’s Division I Athletics Program, representing the highest principals of honesty and integrity. By conducting annual fund, endowment and capital campaigns in support of student-athlete scholarships, athletic facility enhancements and other programmatic needs the Pirate Club seeks to bring positive recognition to East Carolina University and the region it serves. |
Job Duties | The Assistant Director for Development will work independently to develop, manage and execute a comprehensive relationship building and fundraising plan for the assigned areas and portfolio associated with the ECU Educational Foundation, better known as the Pirate Club. Working independently and creating opportunities utilizing unique ideas as well as traditional fundraising tactics. Focus will be on relationship building though face to face visits with donors and perspective donors. This person will serve as a fundraiser for the Pirate Club managing several chapters and chapter presidents as part of their portfolio to increase giving to the Pirate Club. The successful candidate will use organizational and fundraising strategies to help grow the base of support. Additionally, this position will strategize and implement new policy and procedures working autonomously to create the most effective and efficient ways to engage donors, friends and alumni with an emphasis on increasing Pirate Club Membership. Further, this position will assist with the preparation and coordination of the annual giving process and any other fundraising needs for the Pirate Club. This professional will work collaboratively with the Pirate Club, athletics department, IMG and university staff, as well as students, business vendors, all donors and other athletics stakeholders. Reporting to the Executive Associate Athletics Director/Revenue Generation; Pirate Club Executive Director, the Assistant Director for Development will serve as a member of the Pirate Club’s external facing fundraising unit and will be responsible for the following essential duties: - Effectively manage a portfolio of annual fund prospects towards increased annual fund contributions and increased engagement. - Conduct in person visits annually with Pirate Club members and/or prospective Pirate Club members. - Work with Pirate Club Chapter Presidents to effectively lead Pirate Club chapters towards increased membership and successful special events. - Actively build and develop a prospect pipeline of leadership annual fund donors. - Support all capital campaigns, planned giving activities and premium seating projects. - Provide excellent member service. - Maintain a culture of rules compliance and institutional control within the Pirate Club. - Serve as a positive member of the ECU and Greenville community by participating in university and community activities. - Contribute to the overall success of the ECU Athletics department and the Pirate Club by willingly performing all other duties and responsibilities assigned. - Build quality relationships and work collaboratively and professionally with Pirate Club, athletics, and University staff, students, business vendors and all donors and stakeholders. - Abide by all written policies and procedures of ECU, the Department of Athletics, The Educational Foundation (Pirate Club), the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and all applicable conferences or associations. This position will travel locally, regionally, and nationally. Nights and weekend work is necessary on occasion. |
Minimum Education/Experience | Bachelor’s Degree and one year of professional fundraising or related experience. Demonstrated experience engaging diverse stakeholders, strengthening their commitment to the organization and achieving their philanthropic support. Excellent communications skills. Technology proficiency with Microsoft Office and databases. Possession of a valid driver’s license. Qualifying degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions and conferred by the time of hire. |
