Aaker Named as Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Internal Operations

Cambridge, Mass. (August 21) -- Aaron Aaker has been named as the MIT senior associate director of athletics for internal operations, as announced by Dr. G. Anthony Grant, director of athletics/DAPER department head. Aaker comes to MIT from nearby Boston University, where he has served as the associate director of athletics for compliance and strategic planning since July 2014.

"I am very excited to welcome Aaron to DAPER and the MIT community," said Dr. Grant. "Aaron brings over 20 years of experience to the department, along with a passion for providing the best possible experience for all of our student-athletes. Aaron will be a great fit within our senior leadership team and I am looking forward to working with him."

At BU, Aaker is responsible for all compliance matters and rules education for the department and University staff, as well the department's strategic planning and implementation of both short and long-term goals. He also serves as a member of the Senior Staff and as a sport administrator for men's and women's cross country/track and field, men's and women's swimming and diving and women's tennis.

"I would like to thank Dr. Grant and the search committee for this opportunity to join the DAPER community," said Aaker. "It was clear through the search process that DAPER is committed to excellence and creating a first-class experience for its students. I look forward to working with all of our staff, coaches and student-athletes."

In addition to his experience at BU, Aaker served as the assistant director of athletics for compliance and eligibility at Boston College from 2007-2014, along with a number of positions at the University of Missouri from 1999-2007.

A cross country and track and field student-athlete at the University of Mary (N.D.), Aaker earned his Bachelor of Science degree in physical education and social & behavioral science in 1993. He went on to earn his Masters in kinesiology from Kansas State in 1995, as well as his Ph. D. in physiology from the University of Missouri in 2001.
