MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta College Director of Athletics Larry Hiser announced the hiring of Emily Ketelsen as the Pioneers' Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach. Ketelsen served as the interim coach for both teams last spring and now assumes the permanent spot as leader of the program.

"Emily is the perfect person to take over our tennis program. She has a great work ethic and strong attention to detail. Her recruiting efforts as our interim Head Coach were greatly appreciated and showed a lot of determination and creativity," Hiser said. "Emily did a great job as a coach and leader last spring, earning the respect of both the men and women. We look forward to her contributions to our community!"

Despite not playing collegiate tennis, Ketelsen already possesses experience in coaching many different age groups.  Her most recent stint was coaching at the middle school level where she taught basic tennis fundamentals, emphasizing the importance of being a team player and instilling effective training practices to use all year round.

Although both Marietta College squads finished last season with a record of 3-11 overall, Ketelsen had one athlete in the women's program earn a place on the All-Ohio Athletic Conference first team.  Isabela Paixao (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour) had nine victories in singles competition last season, all in straight sets, becoming the first Pioneer to make the All-OAC team since Caroline Becker did it back in 2017. Ketelsen will attempt to continue that momentum into the 2023-24 season and beyond.

Originally from Marietta, Emily graduated from Ohio University with a bachelor's degree in History in May of 2020.  She is also currently working as the Education Director and Programs Coordinator at the Campus Martius and Ohio River Museums, also located in the city of Marietta.
