Brooks Named New SUNY Canton Esports Coordinator, Murray to Transition to SUNY Esports Commissioner Role

Canton, NY – SUNY Canton Esports Management graduate and former esports player and caster Justin Brooks has been named the new SUNY Canton Esports Coordinator. He replaces Charles Murray who will transition to a new role as the commissioner of the State University of New York (SUNY) Esports league.

Murray, who was hired as SUNY Canton's first full-time esports coordinator, served in the position since March 2019. He was instrumental in the growth of the Roos Esports program as they featured nearly 80 players on their rosters and added numerous titles to the program's offerings. Over his time leading SUNY Canton's esports efforts he also ran the SUNY Esports league, which has developed into his new role as that league's commissioner.

"Charlie did a terrific job continuing the growth of our esports program here at SUNY Canton," Athletic Director Randy Sieminski said. "We are grateful to him as he continued to expand our offerings and spearheaded tremendous growth over the last several years. We look forward to continuing to work with Charlie in his role leading SUNY Esports and continuing its growth."

"I have really enjoyed leading SUNY Canton esports to new heights and working with hundreds of students who participated in our program," Murray said. "Helping put esports on the map and making SUNY Canton a well-known name regionally in collegiate esports has been a tremendous experience. I am looking forward to leading SUNY Esports and continuing its extraordinary growth and success."

Brooks recently graduated from SUNY Canton with a Bachelor's degree in Esports Management and was heavily involved in the Roos esports program during his time on campus. He was a member and captain of the SUNY Canton Valorant team and also competed on the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Halo Infinite teams. In addition, he was a lead producer for the HSEL Grand Finals and was a host and caster for the SUNY Chancellor's Esports Challenge during the peak of COVID.

"Justin's experience and familiarity with SUNY Canton Esports really stood out during the interview process," Sieminski said. "He has a variety of experience across different esports titles. In addition to his experience directly with our esports arena and equipment, he also brings outside knowledge with LeagueSpot and ECAC and SUNY Esports that will serve him well in his new position."

Brooks also has extensive experience as both an intern for LeagueSpot as well as Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Esports. During his time with LeagueSpot he administered numerous tournaments, managed 40 Discord channels with a combined membership of more than 2,000 people and maintained a database of player statistics among other duties. While interning with ECAC Esports he designed web pages, live brackets and interviewed players while writing articles for their website.

"As someone who has directly seen what SUNY Canton Esports can mean to a student I could not be more excited to take on a larger role with the program," Brooks said. "I look forward to helping give current and future students a tremendous experience during their time with the Roos."
