UMAC appoints Jordan Benson as next Assistant Commissioner

ST. PAUL, MINN. – The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) has appointed Jordan Benson as its next Assistant Commissioner. Benson has served as the Assistant Director of Athletics for Sports Information at the University of Northwestern-St. Paul since February of 2021. Prior to that, he spent two years at Concordia University (Wis.) as part of their athletics communications staff and also worked previously at St. Olaf College Athletics Department in athletics communications. Throughout all of his career stops, Benson has produced major contributions and enhancements, particularly in the area of video production and other digital media content. 
 
The hire was announced on Thursday by UMAC Commissioner Corey Borchardt. “With a strong sports information background and diverse athletics communications experiences, Jordan will be a great asset to the conference and our member institutions.” Borchardt added, “I’m grateful to add an individual to our team that carries a depth of understanding of the conference and solid knowledge of the colleges and universities that comprise the UMAC.”
 
Benson completed his undergraduate degree in 2016 from the University of Minnesota-Duluth and also holds a Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership and Administration from Concordia University (Wis.). Benson notes, “I'm very excited to join the UMAC administrative staff and I'd like to thank Commissioner Borchardt for this opportunity. I'm grateful that I will have the privilege to cover and promote all of the incredible student-athletes and teams across our conference.”

Benson's primary duties with the UMAC will include oversight of the league’s sports information and communication efforts, brand and identity development utilizing the conference’s website and social media platforms, assisting with the administration of all 18 conference championships, and providing additional support to the governance structure and member institutions including some duties involving compliance, programming and membership services. Benson will begin his duties with the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference in September
