Bowie set to take over track programs at Lane

JACKSON, Tenn. - Carl Bowie has been named head coach of the Track and Field and Cross Country teams at Lane College.

Bowie has coached 18 years on the USATF and AAU circuits, in addition to the high school level. His time in the club ranks has produced several high school state and national champions. He's had a number of athletes become NCAA Division I national qualifiers, as well as All-Americans and national champions. One of Bowie's current athlete's has qualified for the upcoming Olympic trials in the 400 meters.

In 2017, Bowie was a volunteer assistant at fellow SIAC member Lemoyne-Owen College, where he led the men's cross-country team to a 4th place finish in the conference

A native of Memphis, Tennessee, Bowie started his college career at Arkansas State University where he majored in Kinesiology and Exercise Science. He had a stellar college career where he served as team captain, while becoming an NCAA Division I national qualifier on the 4x400 meter relay team. Bowie also earned multiple Sunbelt Conference and American South Conference championships. Bowie prepped at Memphis Central High where he was a three-year state cross country finalist and state champion in the 800 meters and 4x800 meter relay. He was also "Best of the Preps" finalist, while being the only athlete from the Memphis area to win an individual race that year.
