David Muchnick Named Head Men's And Women's Tennis Coach

New York, NY - David Muchnick has been tabbed head coach of the John Jay men's and women's tennis program, Director of Athletics Cat Alves announced.

"We are excited to announce that Coach Muchnick will be our head coach for both men's and women's tennis programs," said Alves. "His experience as a coaching professional, his vision for developing student-athletes and his passion for John Jay will transition effectively to the on-court instruction of our student-athletes and the growth of these programs."

Coach Muchnick, no stranger to the Bloodhounds, will continue to serve in the role of Associate Head Coach of the John Jay Bloodhounds men's basketball program.

"It is a very exciting time for our tennis programs," said Deputy Director of Athletics Brandon Fieland. "Given his coaching experience here at John Jay, his knowledge and ability to recruit quality student-athletes both regionally and nationally will be very beneficial to our programs."

Muchnick rejoined the Bloodhounds family before the start of the 2022-23 campaign and will commence his first season on the tennis courts on September 12 as the women's tennis team squares off against Manhattanville.

"I am most appreciative to Cat (Alves) and Brandon (Fieland) for their support and confidence as I undertake this exciting additional role here at John Jay College," commented Muchnick. "I have said repeatedly since returning to the Bloodhounds last summer that this place has been home to me unlike any other in my professional career, and it's truly because of the people in this amazing learning community. I'm thrilled to begin my tenure with the men's and women's tennis team and look forward to seeing what we can build and achieve together."

Last season marked Coach Muchnick's 19th year coaching at the NCAA Division III level and has recruited and coached numerous All-Conference performers and three NCAA All-Americans.

In total, five Big Red golfers earned All-NCAC recognition.

Muchnick began his coaching career as the top assistant at SUNY Cortland from 2005-08, helping the Dragons notch a 55-29 overall record during his time in Upstate New York. The Dragons advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament Second Round, a SUNYAC regular-season title, and were tabbed SUNYAC Coaching Staff of the Year, all coming in 2005-06.
