Westminster announces Director of Golf

Salt Lake City, UT - The Westminster University Athletic Department is pleased to announce the appointment of Denise Larson as the Director of Golf.

"We're excited to promote Denise Larson to the role of Director of Golf," stated Shay Wyatt, Director of Athletics. "Since assuming the position of Head Women's Golf Coach in 2017, Denise's leadership and dedication have further enhanced our women's golf program in all aspects. We are confident her leadership will greatly benefit both our men's and women's golf teams. We look forward to supporting them and her continued contributions."

Larson's tenure as the Head Women's Golf Coach at Westminster has been marked by impressive achievements. Her team's victory in the 2020-21 RMAC Championship and her recognition as the RMAC Coach of the Year, as voted by her peers, underscore her impressive leadership. Many of her players have earned All-Conference recognition for their exceptional performance. Larson's emphasis on success in both academics and athletics has led to the Women's Golf Team securing the RMAC Brechler Award for the highest team GPA in the conference in 20-21 (3.77) and 22-23 (3.74). Furthermore, the team produced the Summit Award recipient for the Student-Athlete with the highest GPA competing at the championship in 2023 (Katelyn Cook-4.0), consistently earning accolades on the all-academic RMAC teams.

Denise Larson expressed her sentiments on her new role, saying, "It's a privilege to be appointed as the Director of Golf at Westminster. I am grateful for the administration's trust in me and the University's commitment to ensuring the enduring success of the golf programs. I am enthusiastic about collaborating with both the men's and women's teams to cultivate a culture that will attract prospective student-athletes. We have every reason to anticipate a bright future for both teams in the years ahead."

Hailing from Bend, Oregon, Larson's passion for sports, particularly basketball, and golf, has always been a driving force. Her aspiration to work in sports and directly with athletes has been a guiding principle throughout her career. Larson resides in the Salt Lake Valley with her husband Tim and their children, Noah, Ben, Liam, and Ella, cherishing their unwavering love and support.

"We are delighted to communicate the establishment of the Director of Golf role and the appointment of Denise Larson," remarked Shelley Jarrard, Associate Athletics Director. "Denise's unwavering commitment to our women's golf program over the past six years has yielded remarkable success. We eagerly await her leadership across both men's and women's programs, confident that they are poised for excellence under her guidance."

Westminster will promptly initiate a search for a Men's Assistant Golf Coach. All interested individuals are encouraged to connect with Coach Larson for further information.
