DURANGO, Colo. -- Riding a wave of momentum created by the #ToTheTop strategic planning process, Skyhawks everywhere stepped up in a significant way to help Fort Lewis College Athletics more than double previous fundraising totals over the last five years while setting additional external records along the way.

"We are incredibly grateful for our generous donors, corporate partners, fans, alumni, and friends," said Director of Athletics Travis Whipple. "It's been amazing to see the support and interest at such a high level. The impact that this support has on the student-athlete experience makes it clear that the best is yet to come as we continue to build a program of excellence and graduate champions."

Over the last year, the department also experienced significant increases in multiple areas. The Skyhawks saw a 30 percent increase in Giving Tuesday participation which resulted in $110,000 for program enhancements. The department captured a record four million dollar commitment while increasing corporate partnerships by 30 percent. Significant enhancements were also made to the game environment and attendance, resulting in a top-10 finish attendance finish in NCAA DII this past winter.

"I would like to thank our outstanding coaches and staff, who have worked tirelessly to generate external support. We are also fortunate to have such a great partnership with the FLC Foundation as well. This has been a complete team effort, and we can't wait to keep the momentum rolling," recognized Whipple.

Another step forward was the inaugural Skyhawks Club Casino Night, taking place in early August and the first premier event of the 2023-24 academic year. The evening featured gaming tables, auction items, dinner stations, and a meet and greet with Skyhawks coaching staff. The department is grateful for all in attendance, those that donated auction items, and all that contributed. The evening raised $52,795 which will directly impact scholarships and program enhancements.

Describing the evening inside of Whalen Gymnasium, Whipple said, "This event served as a great opportunity for members of our community to engage with our coaches and staff while helping raise support that directly impacts our student-athletes. We believe this will continue to be an event that our donors, friends, and community don't want to miss. It was a great way to celebrate the past year and look ahead; you can feel the excitement building for all of our teams."
