Amanda Alioto named Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Academic Success

BOSTON, MA- Vice Chancellor for Athletics and Recreation Dr. Jacqueline Schuman has announced the appointment of Amanda Alioto as the Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Academic Success at the University of Massachusetts Boston.

"I am thrilled to welcome Amanda to UMass Boston.  Driven by her own experience as a college student-athlete and the skills that it took to balance her academic and athletic pursuits, Amanda was the right candidate for this position because of her passion and understanding of the importance of the holistic success of student-athletes," said Schuman.  "Her professional experiences as a coach and admissions counselor also make Amanda someone who can relate to the many constituents that she will need to collaborate with to execute on meeting the needs of our population."  Amanda will serve as a key resource for our student-athletes as we prepare them to excel athletically and academically."

Alioto comes to the harbor campus after most recently serving as the Associate Director of Admissions at Nichols College in Dudley, MA. In this role, Amanda led the implementation of undergraduate adult online programming, acted as a liaison between admissions and athletics, and worked closely with university senior leadership on strategic recruitment efforts.

"I am excited about joining the UMass Boston community and having the opportunity to work with such a diverse group of student-athletes," said Alioto. "To be able to come to a campus that provides an affordable and accessible education to so many first-generation college students makes it a place where we can truly see the impact of our work daily."

In her new role, Alioto will be responsible for designing, implementing, and operationalizing all programmatic academic services for UMass Boston undergraduate student-athletes. She will promote all student-athletes ethical and holistic academic success by monitoring individual and team academic progress, retention, and eligibility. She will also provide an environment dedicated to guiding student-athletes to graduation while building positive relationships and enhancing their overall experience.

"I'm looking forward to building relationships and helping the student-athletes at UMass Boston academically, professionally, and mentally. I want to help them prepare for their life after college and create good habits that will help them throughout their experience at UMass Boston and beyond," added Alioto.

Before being promoted to the Associate Director of Admissions at Nichols, Alioto served as an Admissions Counselor, where she reviewed prospective student applications, conducted interviews, made final admissions decisions, and counseled and advised students and families about educational opportunities, the admission process, and financial assistance.

Alioto holds a BS in Business Administration and an MBA from Nichols, where she was a member of the softball team and most recently, an Assistant Softball Coach.

Alioto will begin her new role on Monday, September 25th.
