Lenore J. Walsh was named SUNY Old Westbury's director of athletics & recreation on July 23, 2012.  

Walsh joined the Old Westbury family after spending 13 years as associate director of athletics and senior woman administrator at New York Institute of Technology (NYIT).

In total, Walsh arrived at Old Westbury with more than a decade and a half of athletic administration experience from NYIT, New York Collegiate Athletic Conference, Dowling College, and the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC).

During her tenure at NYIT, Walsh assisted the director of athletics in overseeing the staff and coaches for the 11 intercollegiate NCAA Division II programs sponsoring Division I baseball.  An example of Walsh’s major accomplishments at NYIT was the implementation of the B.E.A.R. (Bear Education Athletic Retention) academic support program which provided increased academic support to identified student-athletes to improve their retention and graduation rates.  She was responsible for maintaining and overseeing the athletic budges and athletic scholarships, monitoring academic progress for all student-athletes while serving as scheduling and travel coordinator, CHAMPS/Life Skills Coordinator and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Advisor.  Walsh was also a member of the NYIT Disciplinary Review Board, Student Affairs Board, Health Services Review Committee, Alcohol Task Force and Emergency Protocols Committee.

Prior to NYIT, Walsh was the director of marketing and promotions for the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference for three years and event management coordinator at Dowling College for two years.  She launched her career as an Asa S. Bushnell Intern with the ECAC in 1996.  The Asa S. Bushnell Internship Program geared Walsh with a diverse experience in athletics administration as well as a strong foundation for a career in athletics where she was involved in the administration of various ECAC programs and services to include championships, communications, leagues/affiliates and marketing.

Walsh a native of Stony Brook, New York, graduated from Ward Melville High School, where she lettered in swimming and lacrosse.  A 1996 graduate of Providence College with a bachelor’s degree in marketing with enhanced studies in sport management, Walsh earned a master’s degree in business administration-general management from Dowling College in 1999.
