THROGGS NECK, NY – Steve Potsklan, a two-time Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year at Fordham University, has been hired as the head coach of the Maritime College men's and women's swimming & diving programs.  He will also serve as Maritime's Aquatics Director.

Potsklan comes to Fort Schuyler after a distinguished 31-year career at Fordham.  He was named Atlantic 10 Women's Swimming Coach of the Year following both the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons, and he led the Ram women to their first-ever Atlantic 10 championship in 2010.  The Fordham men's team also had its best-ever showing at the Atlantic 10 Championships that season, finishing in a tie for fourth place.

During his tenure, Fordham swimmers set 175 school records and numerous conference marks.  Potsklan coached 51 Atlantic 10 and four ECAC individual champions, as well as multiple all-conference honorees and individual award winners.  His teams were also successful in the classroom, regularly earning Academic All-District and Scholar All-America accolades.

In 2012, Brienne Ryan qualified for both the NCAA Championships and U.S. Olympic Trials, becoming the first Fordham swimmer ever to compete at those two events.  Amelia Bullock, meanwhile, was named Most Outstanding Performer at the 2020 Atlantic 10 Championships, the first swimmer in Fordham history to receive that honor.  On the men's side, Akira Kosugi was the 1995-96 Atlantic 10 Most Outstanding Performer and Paul Delo earned Most Outstanding Diving Performer honors in 1996-97.

"It's a great honor to be named Head Swimming & Diving Coach and Aquatics Director at Maritime College," Potsklan said.  "I'd like to thank Athletic Director Mike Berkun for his trust in me and the opportunity to lead this great program.  I look forward to creating something special here, and I can't wait to get started."

Prior to his time at Fordham, Potsklan spent five years as an assistant coach at Yale University.  He also previously served on the staffs at West Virginia and Texas, where he coached several NCAA and U.S. Nationals finalists, as well as the Omni Swim Club, Mountaineer Swim Club, and the Texas Longhorn and Alabama Swim Camps.
