Allison Fondale Named Associate Director of Athletics

St. Mary's (HS) Director of Athletics to Join Baker's Administrative Team

BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins University Associate Vice Provost for Student Affairs, Director of Athletics and Recreation Jennifer S. Baker has announced the appointment of Allison Fondale as Associate Director of Athletics, effective October 4, 2023.  Fondale replaces Jon Kindred, who had served in that role since 2018.

In her position as the Associate Director of Athletics, Fondale will oversee NCAA compliance for Johns Hopkins' 24-sport, multi-divisional athletic program that includes more than 650 varsity student-athletes.  In addition, she will assist with event operations for select athletic events and will serve as a sport administrator for several Blue Jay athletic teams.  In that role, she will play an active role with each team in budget development, fundraising, competition scheduling and rules education.

Fondale most recently served as the Director of Athletics at St. Mary's High School in Annapolis, Maryland since 2014.  There, she managed all aspects of a highly-successful coed athletic program that consists of 36 teams that compete in the prestigious MIAA (boys athletics) and IAAM (girls athletics).  Fondale oversaw a staff of eight administrators/support staff and 85 coaches.

She recently completed a two-year team as the President of the IAAM (2021-23), spent two years on the executive committee of the MIAA (2018-20) and was honored as the Maryland State Co-Director of Athletics of the Year in 2020.

Among Fondale's key initiatives during her time at St. Mary's were the opening of a five million dollar athletic facility that includes lockers rooms, team meeting rooms, athletic office space and a state-of-the-art training room to service Saint student-athletes.  She also developed a unique apparel agreement with Under Armour and formed a network partnership with NFHS that provided live streaming of select St. Mary's athletic events.

Prior to her time at St. Mary's, Fondale spent more than 15 years coaching women's lacrosse at the Division I level.  After spending seven seasons as an assistant at Duke (1998-2004) and two at Maryland (2005-06), Fondale served as the head coach at Ohio University from 2005-07 before joining Hall of Famer Cindy Timchal's staff at the United States Naval Academy.  There, she helped build a Midshipmen program that made its varsity debut in 2008 and would make four trips to the NCAA Tournament before she departed in 2014 for the position at St. Mary's.

Fondale was a four-year standout for the Loyola Maryland women's lacrosse team from 1994-97.  She earned Third Team IWLCA All-America honors as a junior and was a second team selection as a senior, when she helped the Greyhounds to the national championship game.  Fondale concluded her Greyhound career with 71 goals and 49 assists for 120 points.  She was inducted into the Greater Baltimore Chapter of the Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2007 and she and the Greyhounds' 1997 national runner-up team were inducted into the Loyola Athletic Hall of Fame in 2021.
